Competition: Economics (for AL Students)
Central Bank of Sri Lanka organises Economics Competition for School Children. The Econ Icon Season IV starts in first quarter of 2019.
Students who studies Economics in AL in Sinhala and Tamil Medium can apply for this competition. Competition has written tests and Television round. Selected students from written test will qualified for TV Round competitions.

Chemistry Olympiad Sri Lanka (COSL)
Institute of Chemistry Ceylon (IChemC) annually conducts the Chemistry Olympiad Sri Lanka (COSL) competition in view of popularising Chemistry and promoting problem-solving in Chemistry among the school children.

The competition will be open for any student below 20 years of age as at 1st July 2019.

Format of the examination
COSL consists of two rounds.
Preliminary selection test
This will be held at 12 regional centers in January each year. The duration of the examination will be two hours and will be conducted in all three languages namely, English, Sinhalese and Tamil.
The question paper will consist of multiple choice questions and structured type questions which covers the first 5 units of the local Advanced Level Chemistry syllabus
(i.e. Atomic structure, Structure and bonding, Chemical calculations, Gaseous state of matter, Energetics),
along with questions on basic organic Chemistry including stereo chemistry.
Final theory and practical examination
Depending on the performances at the preliminary examination, the selected students will be invited to take part in the final round of the COSL. Theory and practical workshops will be conducted at the IChemC premises at Rajagiriya for the finalists prior to the final examination.
Awards and certificates
National level winners will receive medals, certificates, monetary awards, and scholarships to study GIC programme in Chemistry.
In addition, students who obtain more than 50% marks from the preliminary exam will receive certificates of commendation.

Student Mapping Competition
Students in any ages could participate in the competition. They could email us information of a geographically, culturally, economically and socially important or significant place/ locations from their own surroundings to our e-mail address (gisday2018@gislk.com) to reach us on or before 25th October 2018. Location details including the Geographical coordinates, a picture and a small description about it especially it’s significant. The details of the participants (Name, date of birth, Address, contact number of the student & name of school) should be sent along with; the specimen of the relevant form is attached herewith.
Certificates and special gifts will be awarded to selected students by a special panel of judges. Award ceremony details & winner details will be informed in due course.

Essay and Art Competition for School Children - World Post Day
Students of all the schools of the island can participate in the competition which will be held under three age categories on Essay and Art while essay competition will be held in all three languages
Essay Competition:
- Junior–Grade 6, 7 & 8

- Mission of the era of the Sri Lanka Post Between 300 - 350

Conditions of the competition:
- One competitor can forward pieces of work for both essay writing and art competitions. But one competitor can forward only one piece of work for one competition.
- All essays must be hand written and on foolscap papers.
- Each piece of art should be on 18” X 14” white paper using any medium as one likes.
- An application recommended by his/her class teacher/teacher in charge of the subject and attested by the principal of school as to prove it is his/ her own creation. .
- The piece of work should be his/her own and also certified by the teacher and attested by the principal below the creation or on the reverse of the creation if it is a drawing.
- All the creations must be enclosed in a suitable cover and “School Competitions of World Post Day- 2018 Primary/ Secondary/ Senior, Essay Writing/ Arts” and name and District/ Province should be mentioned on the top left hand corner of the envelope.
- All pieces of work should be addressed to Postmaster General, Postal Head Quarters, No. 310, D.R. WijewardhanaMawatha, Colombo 10
- Closing Date 25th Of September 2018.
- These creations can be sent by post free of charge by handing them over to the nearest post office.
- Winners for all island First, Second and Third places will be selected and they will be offered financial gifts and certificates at the Main Ceremony to be held on World Post Day.

Essay Competition for University Students
TOPIC
‘Importance of Free Trade Agreements for Investment and Business in Sri Lanka’
(Sri Lanka recently concluded its first comprehensive FTA with Singapore and, in the process of negotiating comprehensive FTAs with India, China and Thailand).
To enhance youth engagement in Trade, Investment and Service discussions, Economy.lk is conducting an essay competition for undergraduates in Sri Lanka.
The deadline for submission is 31st August 2018 and essays can be written in Sinhala, Tamil or English.
Requirements
- Should be aged between 18-25
- Should be Gov/Pvt university student
- Essay must be between 800-1000 of words
- Can be written in English, Sinhala or Tamil
- Each entrant may submit only (1) essay
- Free entry
The essays will be judged by the Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU) of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and 5 winners will be selected based on the quality of content.
The top 5 will each win a free pass to Sri Lanka Economic Summit 2018 #SLES2018 where they will be awarded a certificate and a cash prize. Furthermore, one selected winner will be entitled to a 3-month internship at the EIU.
