Ministry of education upgrade four provincial schools as national schools. 

1. Buona Vista College, Galle, 
2. St. Sylvester’s College, Kandy
3. Valaichchenai Hindu College, Batticaloa 
4. Al Ashraf College, Ampara 

With these four schools, the number of national schools has increased to 374. All national schools including these four schools have come under direct observation and management of the Education Ministry while all provincial schools are under respective provincial councils.
