Academic Suspend to Higher Educational Institutes



The Ministry of Education has released a special notice regarding academic activities.

All Universities, Higher Education Institutes, and Vocational Training Institutes will suspend all academic activities until December 08, 2025.

Further updates will be communicated by the Ministry in due course.

Schools Reopen on December 16

 


Schools will reopen for the final phase of the third school term on December 16, according to Nalaka Kaluwewe, Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education.

The reopening was originally scheduled for December 08, but due to the prevailing disaster situation in the country, authorities have decided to postpone the reopening to ensure the safety and preparedness of all stakeholders.

Special Holiday Announced for Government Offices Tomorrow on 28th of November 2025

Special Holiday for Government Offices

Considering the difficulties in maintaining regular office operations due to the prevailing emergency disaster situation, the Government has announced that Friday, 28.11.2025 — that is, tomorrow — will be declared a special holiday for all government offices, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils, and Local Government.

Furthermore, the statement also mentions that this holiday should not hinder calling upon officials engaged in essential government services and disaster relief services.

Sri Lanka Medical Council has released a special announcement on Prescription Writing.

The Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) has received multiple complaints from the General Public, including Pharmacists, regarding illegible prescriptions issued by certain Practitioners.

These illegible prescriptions have caused much confusion to patients and Pharmacists and have given rise to difficulty in obtaining correct prescribed medications, thereby compromising patient safety.

In light of this issue, Practitioners are reminded to strictly adhere to the guidelines set forth in the chapter titled. 'Prescription Writing and Rational Prescribing' in the Guidelines on Ethical Conduct for Medical and Dental Practitioners registered with the SLMC, published by the SLMC when writing and issuing prescriptions.

Please be informed that failure to strictly adhere to the above Guidelines, constitutes professional misconduct which lays the foundation to initiate disciplinary action under the Medical Disciplinary (Procedure) Regulations 1990.

NMRA Announces Prices for 350 Medicines


According to the provisions of the National Medicines Regulatory Authority Act No. 05 of 2015, the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) has approved and published the maximum retail prices (MRP) of certain medicines.

All pharmacies and retailers must strictly adhere to these approved maximum retail prices when selling the relevant medicines.

If there is any situation where these medicines are sold above the approved Maximum Retail Price (MRP), or if any misleading or false information is observed regarding pricing, the public is requested to notify the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA).

Cabinet Approval for 8547 Government Jobs


Cabinet approval has been granted for the recruitment of 8,547 government vacancies.

Approval of the Cabinet of Ministers was granted at their meeting held on 30.12.2024 to appoint a committee comprised of officials headed by the Secretary to the Prime Minister to take necessary actions in regard to the quantities of recruitments to be made essentially after identifying requirements, priorities and time frames by reviewing the process of recruitment to the government service. 

Considering the requests forwarded to the said committee for filling the vacancies in the posts existing in departments and other institutions under respective Ministries, as per the recommendations made at the committee meeting held on 02-10-2025, the Cabinet of Ministers granted approval to the resolution furnished by the Hon. Prime Minister to grant approval to the relevant Departments and institutions under the each Ministry to fill the vacancies in them.
