Open Invitation to Professional and Amateur Photographers and the General Public to Contribute to the “National Visual Chronicle” on Cyclone Ditwah

The President’s Media Division, in collaboration with the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat, is compiling a National Visual Chronicle documenting the impact of Cyclone Ditwah on Sri Lanka and the subsequent recovery process. Accordingly, the President’s Media Division invites professional and amateur photographers as well as the public to submit relevant photographs.

This initiative is being carried out under the Government programme for the documentation and preservation of photographs capturing significant historical events in Sri Lanka.
In this context, plans are underway to hold this National Photography Exhibition from 13 to 17 February 2026 at the premises of the Lotus Tower, Colombo.

Photographs reflecting the impact of Cyclone Ditwah and the resulting disaster on daily life, emergency relief efforts provided to affected communities, initiatives aimed at recovery and restoration, safe shelters established for displaced persons and the rebuilding of livelihoods can be submitted.

A special committee will select suitable photographs. The selected images will be displayed to the public at the National Exhibition and included in the official photo book. In addition, they will be featured in a online visual archive together with relevant information on image credits and copyright information.

Education Ministry has released a special announcement to not changing school hours for the year 2026.

Detailed Circular will be released on 02.01.2026

  • School Time 7.30 - 1.30
  • Periods - 07
  • Time of a single Period - 45 Minutes
  • Grade 06 New Syllabus will be started on 21.01.2026

School Operations and Academic Activities for 2026
  • School hours for Grades 5–13 will remain from 7.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m., as before.
  • The first school term will commence on 05.01.2026.
  • There will be 7 periods per day for Grades 6–13, and each period will be 45 minutes in duration.
  • New education reforms will be implemented in 2026 for Grade 1 and Grade 6.
Grade 6
  • Under the new education reforms, academic activities for Grade 6 will officially commence on 21.01.2026.
  • Learning modules for Grade 6 will be provided before the commencement of academic activities.
Grade 1
  • Student identification for Grade 1 will take place on 05.01.2026.
  • Academic activities for Grade 1 will commence on 29.01.2026.
  • Activity books for Grade 1 will be provided before the commencement of academic activities.
Other Notes
  • Textbooks for the other classes have already been distributed.
  • The remaining sessions of the 2025 G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination will be held from 12.01.2026 to 20.01.2026.
  • The circular related to this announcement will be issued on 02.01.2026.

Online Booking - Toursit Bungalows & Holiday Resorts


In line with further advancing the current government’s digital governance policy, an event to introduce an online reservation facility for tourist bungalows and holiday resorts under the Ministry of Public Administration was held yesterday (29) at the Ministry Auditorium. The event was held under the patronage of the Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government, Professor Chandana Abeyratne.

For Government Employee
Circuit Bungalows 
  • Reservation is restricted only for 03 consecutive days.
Holiday Bungalows 
  • Reservation is restricted only for 03 consecutive days.
Holiday Resorts 
  • Government charges will be applicable to 04 rooms only.
  • The applicant must be personally present at the property.
  • The application is non-transferable and cannot be assigned to any other person under any circumstances. Only the individuals specified in the application are permitted to enter the premises.
  • To obtain services, applicants must produce the completed application form together with their National Identity Card/Employment Identity Card and the original payment receipt issued by the Bank or the Head Office.
  • The number of guests shall not exceed the maximum occupancy permitted for each room or bungalow.
  • Rooms and all items provided (including bed linen, sheets, towels, pillowcases, etc.) must be maintained in a clean and proper condition.
  • No damage may be caused to the internal or external premises of the property. In the event of any damage caused by guests, the cost of repair or replacement will be recovered from the applicant.
  • Guest conduct must not cause inconvenience, disturbance, or discomfort to other guests.
  • Holding ceremonies, parties, or any other functions at the Holiday Bungalow is strictly prohibited.
  • Smoking and the consumption of liquor are not permitted on the premises.
  • Charges for common utilities (such as electricity and blankets) must be paid directly to the Caretaker of the Holiday Bungalow/Circuit Bungalow, and a Form General 172 must be obtained as proof of payment.
  • Payments made for reservations are non-refundable in the event of cancellation. However, reservations may be rescheduled within three (03) months from the original reservation date.
  • Reservations may be cancelled for official purposes of the Ministry under unavoidable circumstances. In such cases, the applicant will be refunded the full amount paid.

Ensure you have the required documents ready before proceeding:

  • A soft copy of your Government Employment ID (Accepted formats: PDF, PNG, JPG).
  • A letter from the Head of the Organization (HOD) – You can download the format using the button below.

It has also been stated in the announcement that the annual transfer which was scheduled to take effect on 01.01.2026 has been postponed. The Ministry of Education further mentioned that the new effective date of the transfer will be announced later.

Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education is taking steps to implement the Programme of granting Gift Vouchers to selected school children, lay and ordained students of Pirivenas and Sil Mathas to obtain a pair of footwear this year too with the objective of encouraging students to receive 13 years of continuous education ensuring equal opportunity in education.

Gift Vouchers to obtain a pair of school footwear to students in schools below 250 students, plantation schools below 500 students, children of schools of special needs, lay and ordained students of Pirivenas and Sil Mathas will be granted throughout the island under this programme.

A pilot project is implemented for the selected schools in the Western and Southern provinces under the same criteria and the local footwear manufacturers who are registered with the Ministry of Industries and Entrepreneurship Development will visit the relevant schools and give these students quality footwear in the market.

It is not possible to obtain footwear from other dealers other than the local footwear manufacturers who are visiting these schools for the Gift Vouchers issued to the students under the implementation of this pilot project.

Gift Vouchers with a value of Rs. 3,000.00 will be issued to students of other provinces, and footwear may be purchased from registered dealers as in the past.

Only the representatives proposed to the Ministry of Education, Higher education and Vocational Education identified by the relevant footwear manufacturing institutions may register for obtaining the relevant footwear for the Gift Vouchers of the students of Western and Southern Provinces where this pilot project is being implemented.

Dealers in any province has the opportunity to sell school footwear by confirming the registration by making a payment of Rs. 1,500.00 by downloading the "Thilinapath" Android Application by visiting "Shoe Project" through your mobile phone by following the instructions given below to students purchasing footwear with Gift Vouchers in other provinces other than in the provinces where the pilot project is being implemented.

  • Business registration Certificate
  • Information of Bank Account opened in the name of registered business / owner of the business
  • Telephone Number used for the use of this application
  • Further information may be obtained by visiting the relevant application
  • May get the confirmation of registration by paying Rs. 1,500.00 after downloading the "Thilinapath" Android by visiting the Play Store through your mobile telephone.
  • Registered dealers are entitled to download the computer application and with that application only facilities are made available to sell footwear for Gift Vouchers through scanning the QR Code mentioned in the Gift Vouchers.
  • Accordingly, It is mandatory that every dealer registering through this method has a smart phone for scanning the QR Code in the Gift Vouchers.
  • It is mandatory to ensure the validity of the Gift Vouchers given to the buyers for the purchase of footwear by the dealer. Ministry will provide all instructions and details to the registered suppliers.
  • Value of the Gift Vouchers relevant to the footwear supplied by you will be directly transferred to your bank account every two weeks.
  • Payments will not be made under any circumstance for the Gift Vouchers not scanned.


Registration will commence from 17.12.2025 onwards.
