The University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka has invited applications from eligible Sri Lankan citizens for the post of Vice-Chancellor. Applications should reach the Registrar, University of Moratuwa on or before 3.00 p.m. on 21 April 2026. Applicants are also required to email a soft copy of the documents in PDF format to applications-vc@uom.lk.

Invitation for applications for the post of Vice-Chancellor – University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka

📌 Vacancy Details

Institution: University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka

Post: Vice-Chancellor

Appointment Type: Full-time Officer

Term: 03 years or until age 65, whichever occurs earlier

✅ Basic Eligibility

Must be a citizen of Sri Lanka
Should be less than 63 years of age by closing date
Must demonstrate academic excellence and strong research profile
Should possess proven leadership and managerial competence

Provide strategic academic leadership
Oversee administration of the University
Promote academic excellence, transparency and accountability
Implement sound management policies and Council decisions

💰 Salary & Allowances

Eligible to be placed on the highest academic salary scale and for an entertainment allowance of 15% of the basic salary, with other applicable allowances according to prevailing rules and regulations.

Statement of Vision for development of the University
Brief account of what the candidate proposes to achieve if appointed
If a current/former Vice-Chancellor applicant – a report of achievements during first term

Presentation Duration: Minimum 10 minutes and not exceeding 15 minutes.

Applications are invited for the Diploma in Library and Information Science (DLIS) conducted by the Sri Lanka Library Association (SLLA).

📌 Entry Requirements

Applicants must fulfill one of the following:

A Degree in any subject from a university recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC)

(i) G.C.E. (A/L) in three subjects in one sitting
AND
(ii) G.C.E. (O/L) passes in six subjects at one sitting with three credits including First Language, and passes in English and Mathematics

Not less than 03 years of experience in permanent service in a recognized library and must have completed requirement 2(ii) above.

Eligible for admission to the Graduate Diploma Course at the National Institute of Library and Information Science (NILIS), University of Colombo, after three years of satisfactory experience.
Qualification for admission to the Bachelor of Library Science Degree Course of the Open University of Sri Lanka.
