Motor Vehicle Examiner Vacancies 2026 – Department of Motor Traffic | Ministry of Transport
Applications are invited for the Open Competitive Examination for recruitment to the post of Motor Vehicle Examiner Grade III in the Department of Motor Traffic under the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development. A total of 25 vacancies will be filled based on the results of a competitive examination conducted by the Department of Examinations. The online application process will begin on 03 March 2026 and close on 27 March 2026.
The Motor Vehicle Examiner post involves duties such as inspecting vehicles, conducting driving tests, issuing vehicle fitness certificates, inspecting garages and driving schools, and preparing reports related to vehicle regulations under the Motor Vehicles Ordinance.

Educational Qualification
Passed GCE Advanced Level in Science / Mathematics / Technology stream with two subjects related to the field in one sitting.
Passed GCE Ordinary Level with 6 subjects including credit passes for Language, Science and Mathematics.
Professional Qualification
National Technical Diploma related to Automotive Mechanisms OR
National Diploma in Engineering Science OR
NVQ Level 6 related to Automotive Mechanics OR
Equivalent qualification approved by Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission.
Experience
Minimum 2 years supervisory level experience in Automotive Mechanical field in a registered motor garage or recognized institution.
Other Requirements
Must be a citizen of Sri Lanka.
Must possess valid driving licence categories A, D and CE.
Must be physically and mentally fit.
Written Examination Subjects
Motor Mechanical Science – 2 Hours – 100 Marks
Aptitude Test – 1 Hour – 100 Marks
Pass Mark – 40%
