Call for Pre-Proposals

The National Research Council (NRC) of Sri Lanka, under the Ministry of Science & Technology, has invited pre-proposals for Target Oriented (TO) Multidisciplinary Research Grants – 2026.

These research grants aim to support problem-oriented, nationally relevant research projects that contribute to sustainable development, social welfare, and environmental sustainability in Sri Lanka.

Priority Research Areas

Researchers can submit proposals under the following priority fields:

1️⃣ Medical Sciences

2️⃣ Agriculture

3️⃣ Physical / Engineering Sciences and Technologies

4️⃣ Chemical Sciences

5️⃣ Environmental Sciences

6️⃣ Other nationally relevant research areas (with proper justification)

Important Dates

For 2026, there will be two submission deadlines.

📅 First Deadline: March 31, 2026

📅 Second Deadline: June 30, 2026

Each applicant can submit only one pre-proposal, and only one grant will be awarded per applicant.

Research Grant Value

Funding may cover:

• Minor equipment

• Research consumables

• Outsourcing services

• Local travel expenses

• Publication costs

• Research assistantships

💰 Maximum Grant Value: Rs. 20 Million

📆 Project Duration: Up to 5 Years

Selection Process

Selected applicants will be invited to:

✔ Present their proposed research project

✔ Submit a comprehensive proposal with detailed research objectives

✔ Provide strong justification for the research targets and outcomes

The NRC decision on awarding grants will be final.

Step 1

Download the Pre-Proposal Format from the NRC website

Step 2

Complete the pre-proposal and obtain the seal and signature of the Institutional Head or Vice-Chancellor.

Step 3

Submit the proposal according to NRC guidelines.
