The Office of the Commissioner General of Essential Services has issued a special circular on fuel and electricity conservation (Guideline No. 02). This circular outlines several important measures that must be followed by government institutions and encourages similar actions in the private sector to reduce energy consumption across Sri Lanka.

Guideline No. 02 – Energy Conservation Measures

Key Energy Saving Rules

All air conditioning units in government institutions must be switched off by 3:00 PM daily.
Private sector institutions are encouraged to follow similar energy-saving measures.
All illuminated billboards and digital advertisements must be switched off by 8:00 PM.
Street lights must be switched off between 6:00 PM and 10:00 PM under special programs.
Large-scale events (over 100 people) should not use national grid electricity and must use alternative energy sources.

Important Notice

These guidelines have been issued to reduce fuel consumption and electricity usage across the country. Government institutions are required to strictly follow these instructions.
