Introduction
The Sri Lanka Teacher Educators’ Service Grade III recruitment is conducted for vacancies in National Colleges of Education, Teachers’ Training Colleges and Teachers’ Centers under the Ministry of Education.
For eligible officers already serving in the education service.
For applicants who fulfill the educational and professional qualifications.
Written Examination, General Interview, Aptitude Testing Interview and Practical Examination.
Limited Exam - General Qualifications
- Should have an excellent moral character.
- Should be a confirmed officer in Sri Lanka Education Administrative Service, Sri Lanka Principals’ Service or Sri Lanka Teachers’ Service.
- The officer should belong to the Public Service or Provincial Public Service.
- Should have earned all salary increments during the immediately preceding 05 years or during the consolidated service period.
- Should not have been subject to disciplinary punishment during the relevant service period.
- No person is permitted to sit the Limited Examination for more than 03 sittings.
- All qualifications should be completed on or before the closing date of applications.
- Should be physically and mentally fit to serve in any part of Sri Lanka.
- Age limit in the previous Gazette: Not more than 45 years as at the closing date.

Limited Exam - Experience Requirement
The candidate should be a confirmed officer who has completed the required qualifications and has completed an active and satisfactory service period of not less than 05 years in Sri Lanka Teachers’ Service, Sri Lanka Principals’ Service or Sri Lanka Education Administrative Service.
Limited Exam - Selection Test Details
Written Examination Papers
Logical thinking, understanding complex paragraphs, summarizing, numerical, textual and figurative reasoning.
Time: 2 Hours | Marks: 100 | Pass Marks: 40
Cases related to teacher education and school education are given to test problem-solving ability.
Time: 2 Hours | Marks: 100 | Pass Marks: 40
Philosophy of Education, Sociology of Education, Role of Teacher, Education Policies, Current Issues, Educational Planning and Management, Evaluation, Teaching Strategies, Educational Technology and Educational Research.
Time: 2 Hours | Marks: 100 | Pass Marks: 40
Candidates who score 40% or more for each paper may be considered for the general interview according to merit and number of vacancies. However, obtaining 40% does not guarantee that the candidate will be called for interview.
Limited Exam - General Interview
- No marks are awarded for the general interview.
- The interview checks whether the candidate has fulfilled the required qualifications.
- Candidates without basic qualifications will not be called for the aptitude testing interview and practical examination.

- Postgraduate Degree on Education or relevant subject - 20 marks
- Postgraduate Diploma - 10 marks
- For Second Language Sinhala / Tamil subjects, relevant Sinhala / Tamil Level II or Second Language Sinhala / Tamil qualification with oral test - 05 marks
English Language Proficiency
- English as a main subject of the Degree - 15 marks
- English as a main subject at G.C.E. A/L - 10 marks
- Diploma Certificate, not less than one year - 08 marks
- Certificate Course, not less than 06 months - 04 marks
- Credit / Very Good / Distinction for English Literature at G.C.E. O/L - 03 marks
- Credit / Very Good / Distinction for English at G.C.E. O/L - 02 marks
ICT Knowledge
- Postgraduate Degree in ICT - 15 marks
- Degree in ICT - 12 marks
- ICT as a main subject for the Degree - 10 marks
- Diploma Certificate in ICT, not less than one year - 08 marks
- Certificate Course in ICT, not less than 06 months - 06 marks
- Certificate Course in ICT, 03 to 06 months - 04 marks
Limited Exam - Practical Examination Marks
Minimum marks considered for selection: 20 marks
Open Exam - General Qualifications
- Should have an excellent moral character.
- No person is permitted to sit the Open Examination for more than 03 sittings.
- All qualifications required for recruitment should be completed on or before the closing date of applications.
- Should be physically and mentally fit to serve in any part of Sri Lanka.
- Candidate should apply in one language medium according to the subject applied for.
- The written examination and practical examination should be faced in the same language medium.
- The language medium cannot be changed later.
Open Exam - Educational & Professional Qualifications
Important Notes
- The qualification should be obtained from a university recognized by the University Grants Commission or a UGC recognized degree awarding institute.
- The subject applied for should be one of the major subjects in the degree course.
- The subject applied for should be applicable to one third of the total subject units of the degree.
- A certificate from the Registrar of the University should be submitted at the general interview.
- If the qualification is from a foreign university, a UGC recognition certificate should be submitted at the general interview.
Open Exam - Experience Requirement
According to the previous Gazette, experience was not applicable for the Open Competitive Examination.
Open Exam - Selection Test Details
Written Examination Papers
Measures logical thinking, comprehension, summarizing ability and reasoning skills.
Time: 2 Hours | Marks: 100 | Pass Marks: 40
Tests the ability to respond to and resolve cases in teacher education and school education.
Time: 2 Hours | Marks: 100 | Pass Marks: 40
Covers education philosophy, sociology, teacher role, education policies, planning, management, evaluation, teaching strategies, educational technology and research.
Time: 2 Hours | Marks: 100 | Pass Marks: 40
Candidates who obtain 40% or more for each written paper may be called for the general interview according to merit and vacancies. This does not mean every candidate with 40% will be called.

Common Examination Conditions
- The examination is conducted in Sinhala, Tamil and English languages.
- Each question paper should be answered in one language medium.
- The language medium mentioned in the application cannot be changed later.
- Incomplete applications are rejected without notice.
- Issuing an admission card does not mean the applicant has fulfilled all qualifications.
- Identity should be proved using National Identity Card, valid Passport or valid Sri Lankan Driving License.
