Message to Principals Regarding 2024 O/L Students


Education Ministry has released a letter to school principals regarding 2024 O/L Students.

In order to prevent students from dropping out of school education during the period until the results are released and to effectively manage that time, according to circular No. 20/2024 dated 2024.05.15 issued by the Ministry of Education for the year 2023 (2024). Before the release of (GCE O/L ) results, students were temporarily shifted to (A/L) classes in schools.

This program is canceled and the following programs are organized for the students who appeared for the examination at the zone/division and school level from the year 2025 until the release of the G.E.C. (Ordinary) examination results.

These programs should be organized in the following areas by managing the existing physical and human resources of the school in such a way that they are effective for all students.

  • Awareness programs on Subject Selection and Stream Selection
  • Field trips and co-curricular programs relevant to A/L streams (E.g. Technical Colleges, Agricultural Colleges, Hotel Schools etc...)
  • Career guidance programs
  • Short Term Foreign Language/ IT Courses
  • Knowledge development programs that can be organized with Higher Education/ Vocational Education Institutions
  • Student personality development and leadership skills development programs
  • Aesthetic programs that develop students' enjoyment skills
  • Student attitude development and religious programs

A/L Vocational Stream Application - 2025 (for 2024 O/L Students)


Applications are called for student admissions to Grade 12 under the A/L Vocational Stream. Students may apply for admission to schools (School List Attached Below) that will implement the Vocational Stream 2025 onwards. 

Success (pass) or failure (fail) of the student at the G.C.E O/L examination is not considered in enrolling students to this stream. 

Under the Vocational Stream, upon undergoing studies in respective schools in Grade 12, students will be able to complete a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) level 04 course under one of the following subject areas in Grade 13.
