📢 Recruitment Overview

Applications are invited for the Open Competitive Examination for recruitment to the post of Assistant Controller of Explosives – Grade III in the Executive Service Category of the Ministry of Defence.

A total of 08 vacancies are available. The written competitive examination is expected to be conducted in October 2026 at examination centres established in Colombo only.

💰 Salary and Nature of Appointment

Salary Code: SL 1 – 2025

Salary Scale: Rs. 82,150 – 10 × 2,400 – 8 × 2,940 – 17 × 3,900 – Rs. 195,970

The revised salary scale becomes fully applicable from 01 January 2027.

The post is permanent and pensionable, subject to future government policy decisions concerning the applicable pension scheme.

✓

The appointment is subject to a three-year probationary period.

✓

The First Efficiency Bar Examination must be passed within three years from the date of recruitment.

✅ General Eligibility Requirements

The applicant must be a citizen of Sri Lanka.

✓

The applicant must be not less than 21 years and not more than 35 years as at 07 August 2026.

✓

Eligible applicants should have been born on or before 07 August 2005 and on or after 07 August 1991.

✓

The maximum age limit does not apply to internal applicants or applicants already serving in the Public Service or Provincial Public Service.

✓

The applicant must possess an excellent moral character.

✓

The applicant must be physically and mentally fit to serve in any part of Sri Lanka and perform the duties of the post.

✓

A person holding an ordained position in any religious denomination is not eligible to sit for this examination.

🎓 Educational Qualifications

Applicants must possess at least one of the following educational or professional qualifications.

Option 01 A Special Degree in Chemistry with a class from a university recognised by the University Grants Commission.

Option 02 A Degree in Science with Chemistry, with a First Class or Second Class Upper Division, from a university recognised by the University Grants Commission.

Option 03 A Degree in Science with Chemistry together with a Postgraduate Diploma in Chemistry from a university recognised by the University Grants Commission.

Option 04 Chartered Membership of the Institute of Chemistry.

Qualifications for Internal Applicants

An officer serving in the Ministry of Defence who possesses a Bachelor of Science Degree with Chemistry from a university recognised by the University Grants Commission and has completed five years of continuous and satisfactory service in work related to explosives under the supervision of the Controller of Explosives.

This internal qualification applies only to officers who were serving as authorised officers in the relevant explosives field under the Ministry of Defence as at 23 March 2012.

Important: All qualifications relevant to the post must have been completed on or before 07 August 2026.

📚 Written Examination Structure

The examination will be conducted in Sinhala, Tamil and English. Each applicant must select one examination medium and answer all question papers in that selected medium.

The selected examination medium cannot be changed after the application is submitted.

Comprehension Paper

This paper assesses essay writing, summary writing, comprehension and the applicant's ability to use language correctly.

Intelligence Test

This objective-type paper assesses logical reasoning, analytical ability and the ability to reach accurate conclusions using verbal, numerical and diagrammatic information.

Practical Chemistry

This paper covers Sri Lanka's geographical location, distribution of mineral resources, chemical foundations of economic development, composition and use of explosives, the Explosives Ordinance and its subsequent amendments.

Candidates must obtain at least 40% for each question paper. Appointments will be made according to the order of merit and the number of available vacancies.
