Application Notice - Important Details

Applications are invited for the Buddhist Dharmacharya Certificate Examination relating to the years 2024 and 2025. The Department of Examinations expects to conduct the examination in November 2026.

Eligibility

An applicant must have at least one of the following qualifications:

• Passed the Dhamma School Final Certificate Examination;
• Passed the Pracheena Prarambha Examination;
• Passed the Piriven Final Examination; or
• Passed six subjects at the G.C.E. (O/L) Examination, including a Credit Pass in Buddhism.

How to Apply

1. Contact the principal of your registered Dhamma school. An eligible applicant who is not presently applying as a Dhamma-school candidate may contact the nearest Dhamma school and apply through it on payment of the prescribed fee.
2. Enter the applicant's full name exactly as shown on the National Identity Card. The NIC number is compulsory.
3. Prepare the application in duplicate. The original must be sent to the Department of Examinations and the second copy retained by the Dhamma-school principal. The principal must sign both copies.
4. The applicant must personally check all entered information and sign the application.
5. Send the completed application by registered post to: Commissioner General of Examinations, Institutional Examinations Organization Branch, Department of Examinations, Pelawatta, Battaramulla.
6. Write “Buddhist Dharmacharya Certificate Examination - 2026” and the requested examination city on the top-left corner of the envelope.

Examination Fees

The Dhamma-school principal must collect applicable fees and pay the total at a post office under Revenue Head 20-03-02-13. The original receipt must be securely attached to the application.

Important Instructions

• The selected examination medium cannot be changed later.
• Incomplete, inaccurate or late applications will be rejected without notice.
• Applicants with special needs must indicate this in the application and submit copies of the relevant medical certificates.
• Keep a copy of the registered-post receipt. The Department will not acknowledge receipt of applications or accept responsibility for postal delays or losses.
• Applicants must pass all five subjects. A candidate who fails only one subject may complete it within the next three examination opportunities, subject to the official conditions.
