Recruitment Overview
Applications are invited from qualified Sri Lankan citizens for the Open Competitive Examination for Recruitment to the Post of Audit Officer, Grade II of Class III in the Field/Office-Based Service Category of the Sri Lanka State Audit Service.
The Gazette notification states that there are 244 vacancies. The actual number of appointments and the effective date of appointment will be determined by the Audit Service Commission according to the vacancies available at the time of recruitment.
The examination is expected to be conducted by the Commissioner General of Examinations in Colombo during December 2026.
Educational Qualifications
Applicants must possess one of the qualifications specified under the relevant category in the official Gazette notification.
Category A – Accounting, Auditing, Commerce and Management
Applicants may qualify through an accepted degree or professional qualification such as:
- A recognized degree with Accounting or Auditing as a principal subject in a relevant field such as Accounting, Commerce, Business, Trade or Public Management;
- An accepted professional qualification in accounting, auditing or management accounting;
- An accepted Higher Diploma or National Higher Diploma related to Accounting, Commerce or Management; or
- Another qualification specifically recognized under Section 7.2.1.1.1 (A) of the Sri Lanka State Audit Service Minute.
Category B – Taxation and Information Technology
A degree awarded by a university recognized by the University Grants Commission, or by an institution recognized as a degree-awarding institution, in a relevant field such as:
- Taxation;
- Information Technology;
- Computer Science;
- Computer Engineering;
- Computer Technology; or
- Another closely related discipline accepted under the Service Minute.
Important: Recruitment under Category B is limited to a maximum of 10% of the officers recruited.

Age Limit
General Applicants
- Minimum age: 22 years
- Maximum age: 28 years
- Age will be calculated as at 12 October 2026.
- Eligible dates of birth are from 12.10.1998 to 12.10.2004, including both dates.
Applicants Already in Government Service
The age of an applicant already serving in the government service should not exceed 45 years, subject to the requirements stated in the Gazette.
Salary and Service Conditions
- Salary code: AS 01-2025
- Monthly salary scale: Rs. 64,610 – 10 × 1,190 – 11 × 1,360 – 15 × 1,670 – Rs. 116,520
- Initial salary point: Rs. 64,610
- The post is permanent and pensionable.
- Selected officers may be required to serve in any part of Sri Lanka.
- Appointment will be subject to the probationary period and other conditions specified in the Service Minute.
- Officers must obtain the required proficiency in the other official language in accordance with the applicable public administration circulars.
Examination and Selection
The examination will be conducted in Sinhala, Tamil and English. Applicants must answer all papers in the same approved examination medium.
Applicants will be required to sit three written papers according to the qualification category selected in the online application. Subjects referred to in the Gazette include:
- General Intelligence;
- Creative, Analytical and Communication Skills;
- Financial Accounting;
- Auditing;
- Information and Communication Technology Knowledge; and
- Aptitude for Information and Communication Technology Management.
The applicable three papers depend on whether the applicant applies under Category A or Category B.
- A minimum of 40% must be obtained for each written paper.
- A minimum overall average of 50% is required.
- Qualified applicants will be called for an interview to verify educational qualifications and relevant records.
- No marks will be awarded for the interview.
- Selection will be based on the aggregate marks obtained in the three written papers, subject to the number of vacancies and the relevant recruitment category.

- The examination fee will not be refunded or transferred to another examination.
- Applicants must select the correct qualification category when applying. The selected category cannot be changed later.
