Educational and Other Qualifications :

Should have passed G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination in six (6) subjects with three (03) credits in not more than two sittings and two of the six subjects should be Sinhala or Tamil Language and Arithmetic or Mathematics.

In addition to the above, the applicants should have obtained

Should have successfully completed a course in Sports or Physical Education which is not less than six (06) months from a recognized school. or

Should have successfully completed a course in sports or Physical Education in a Training Institute or school of the Police, Armed Forces or Civil Defense Service ; or

Should have served as a Teacher in Sports or Ground Instructor in a local government body or should have shown special performance in the field of sports with at least five (05) years experience. or

Should be a member of a National Sports Team in any sports and should have participated in an International Competition. or

Should have obtained first or second place of a District Level Competition in National Sports Festival conducted by the Ministry of Sports or first, second or third place in a National level competition conducted by a National Sports Association.

Setting fire to a fellow student in Grade 5 at school

Three Grade 5 students who set a student on fire by lighting a thinner can in a classroom in revenge for the betrayal have been taken into custody by the Gampola, Kurunduwatta police and investigations have begun.

Angry over the theft of a tinder bottle from the classroom, three students aged 10 and 11 at a primary school in the Kurunduwatta, Yatapana area of the Gampola Educational Zone poured thinner into a paint container in the classroom and set it on fire, throwing it at another student, causing the student's legs to burn and injure him.

School Exams in 2026

Commissioner General of Examinations Amita Jayasundara told Silumina that from the year 2026, all government examinations will be implemented again under the schedule that existed 6 years ago.

Accordingly, he pointed out that the grade 5 scholarship and GCE A/L exams will be held in August, the GCE O/L exam will be held in December, and the rest of the government exams will also be held as per the scheduled schedule.
