Tuition Annual Income 21 000 Crores

 


Tuition teachers earn Rs. 210 billion (Rs 21 000 Crores ) annually, said Professor Wasantha Athukorala, Director of the Postgraduate Department of Economics, Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Peradeniya, to Silumina.

These calculations have been revealed according to a recent survey, and this does not include the charging of individual or small group classes conducted in urban areas, the Professor points out. 

It has been revealed that tutoring teachers earn an income of 
  • Rs. 3,500 Crores from scholarship students from Grade 3 to Grade 5
  • Rs. 9,400 Crores from GCE Ordinary Level students and 
  • Rs 8,000 Crores from Advanced Level students.

Pointing out that some of these tutoring classes begin at 12:00 midnight, the professor said that this is also detrimental to the mental and physical health of the children. 

He added that the huge amount of money earned in this way is not subject to any tax system.

Eligibility to apply for selection test
  • 3 Passes in GCE A/L on or After the year 2000 OR
  • 4 Passes in GCE A/L Before the Year 2000 OR
  • NCOE Diploma with 4 credit passes in Linguistics and Introduction to Phonology, English Language, English Language Teaching Methodology, English Literature OR 
  • Those who have obtained a minimum of three passes for any three subjects of the General Certificate of Education Advance Level Certificate G.C.E. (Advanced Level) of the UK Examination Boards (commonly known as London Advanced Level Examinations: Cambridge/Edexcel). OR

Fully Funded Scholarships for German Language Teachers


The Goethe-Institut Sri Lanka, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the German Teachers Association of Sri Lanka (SriDaF), is pleased to announce a fully funded scholarship program for German language teachers. This prestigious opportunity offers selected teachers the chance to spend three weeks in Germany, further enhancing their linguistic and pedagogical skills.

Closing Date 25.04.2025

Teachers will receive a three-week, fully funded scholarship to Germany before October 2025 to attend a German language course organized by a Goethe-Institut in Germany.

Important Conditions

  • Applicants must not have previously visited Germany through a Goethe-Institut or Ministry of Education-funded program.
  • Teachers are expected to actively promote German language learning within their schools by organizing after-school classes, integrating German with other subjects, and encouraging student participation in cultural events.
  • Participation in professional development programs conducted by the Ministry of Education or Goethe-Institut will be taken into account.
  • Consideration will be given to teachers who successfully encourage students to take A1, A2, or B1 German exams for respective school students.

Application for Assist in marking the ballot paper for Disable Person - LG Election 2025

Election Commission has issued a media release on  Legal Provisions regarding voters with disability, to be accompanied by a person to assist in marking the ballot paper at the polling station.

Provisions exist in Section 54 (2) of the principal Act, Elections (Special Provisions) Act No. 28 of 2011 for a person who is totally or partially visually handicapped or physically disabled to be accompanied by a person to assist in marking the ballot paper. 

The person who accompanies the disabled person should be over 18 years of age and should not be a contesting candidate at the election. He should not be an authorized agent or a polling agent of a political party at the election. In addition he should not be a person subject to any disability. 

In order to be accompanied by a person to assist as stated above, a Certificate of Eligibility prescribed in the Tenth Schedule to the Act should be handed over to the officers at the polling station.

Special Transport Facility for Physically Disabled Persons - LG Election 2025

 


Election Commission has released a media notice on providing Special Transport facility for physically disabled persons to cast votes for upcoming local Government Election 2025.


Closing Date for the Application 29.04.2025

Any person who is unable to travel to the polling station on foot or by a service provided by the Sri Lanka Central Transport Board or by a Regional Transport Board or by Sri Lanka Government Railways or by any public transport, by reason of any physical disability, may apply in writing to the Returning Officer of the District under Section 82G (4)(d) of the Act, by himself or on his behalf by any other person, not being a candidate, to use any vehicle for the purpose of such conveyance.
