Applications are now open for the Master of Arts in Teaching English as a Second Language (MA TESL) programme 2026/27 conducted by the Postgraduate Institute of English (PGIE), The Open University of Sri Lanka.
This programme is suitable for university lecturers, English teachers, teacher educators, and those with English teaching experience or qualifications who wish to develop professionally in English Language Teaching.

Available Exit Points
- Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching English as a Second Language (PGDip TESL) – 10-month postgraduate diploma with teaching practicum and portfolio.
- Master of Teaching English as a Second Language (MTESL) – 1-year Master’s degree by coursework.
- Master of Arts in Teaching English as a Second Language (MA TESL) – 2-year programme with thesis.
Who Can Apply?
Applicants with the following qualifications may apply, subject to the requirements mentioned in the official advertisement:
- Postgraduate Diploma in ELT / TESL / EFL / Education in English Medium
- Bachelor’s Honours Degree in English and/or ELT/TESL
- Bachelor’s Honours Degree in Linguistics in English Medium
- Bachelor’s Degree with Teaching English as a subject
- Bachelor’s Degree with English as a subject and required teaching experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in English Medium with required English teaching experience or postgraduate certificate
- Recognized teacher training qualification with relevant English language teaching experience

Applicants should pay the non-refundable application fee of Rs. 2,000 and keep an image of the deposit receipt for the online application.
