Programme Overview

The Open University of Sri Lanka invites online applications for the Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences programme for the 2026/2027 academic year. This multidisciplinary undergraduate programme is conducted by the Department of Social Studies, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must satisfy at least one of the following:

A minimum of three passes at the G.C.E. A/L Examination in any stream; or
Completion of any foundation programme offered by OUSL; or
A minimum of 30 credits at SLQF Level 2 or above from a programme approved by the OUSL Senate; or
A qualification or accredited work experience equivalent to NVQ Level 4; or
An equivalent or higher qualification acceptable to the OUSL Senate.

Areas of Study

Students receive multidisciplinary social-science training and can select one of the following streams:

Economics and Development Studies
Communication Studies
Politics and International Relations
Society and Culture Studies

The programme starts at Level 3. Each year has two semesters, and students may offer courses worth up to 15 credits per semester. Compulsory, elective and Continuing Education courses are included.

🎓 Interest Free Student Loan Scheme – 11th Intake

Applications are invited for the 11th Intake of the Interest Free Student Loan Scheme (IFSLS) implemented under the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education.

The scheme provides an opportunity for eligible Sri Lankan students to follow approved degree programmes offered by participating non-state higher education institutes.

Applicants should possess at least one of the following qualifications:

Three passes obtained in one and the same sitting at the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination in Sri Lanka.
Successful completion of an OUSL Foundation Programme consisting of 60 credits at Levels 1 and 2.
Successful completion of an Advanced Certificate Programme offered by the Faculty of Management Studies of OUSL, consisting of 30 SLQF credits at SLQF Level 2.
Successful completion of another OUSL Advanced Certificate Programme consisting of 30 SLQF credits at SLQF Level 2.
An equivalent or higher academic or professional qualification acceptable to the Senate of the Open University of Sri Lanka.

Eligible applicants are required to pass the Selection Test. The Selection Test exemption stated in the official notice applies to applicants entering through the relevant Faculty of Management Studies Advanced Certificate pathway.

Applicants must pass the selection interview and qualify through the interview merit list.

Eligible Diploma in Nursing holders receive exemptions from Levels 3 and 4 and are required to complete Levels 5 and 6.

Six O/L passes, including Mathematics and First Language, with at least two credit passes obtained within no more than two sittings; or

Completion of an OUSL Certificate Programme carrying 30 credits at Level 1 or above; or

An NVQ Level 3 or higher qualification, or another equivalent qualification accepted by the Senate.

Programme Overview

The Bachelor of Science Honours in Psychology programme is offered by the Department of Psychology and Counselling of the Faculty of Health Sciences, The Open University of Sri Lanka.

The programme is designed for individuals interested in understanding psychology and its different subfields through the open, distance and flexible learning system of the OUSL.

Students will develop theoretical knowledge, practical skills, research abilities and an understanding of ethical standards relevant to psychology in the Sri Lankan context.

The programme consists of courses at Levels 3, 4, 5 and 6. Students are required to complete a total of 120 credits over the four levels.

விண்ணப்பதாரர்கள் க.பொ.த. உயர்தரப் பரீட்சையில் ஒரே அமர்வில் மூன்று பாடங்களில் சித்தியடைந்திருக்க வேண்டும். மேலும் க.பொ.த. சாதாரண தரப் பரீட்சையில் ஆங்கிலப் பாடத்தில் குறைந்தபட்சம் சாதாரண சித்தி பெற்றிருக்க வேண்டும். தகுதி பெறும் விண்ணப்பதாரர்கள் தெரிவு நேர்முகப் பரீட்சையில் சித்தியடைய வேண்டும்.
