Admission Requirements

Applicants should possess at least one of the following qualifications:

  1. Three passes obtained in one and the same sitting at the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination in Sri Lanka.
  2. Successful completion of an OUSL Foundation Programme consisting of 60 credits at Levels 1 and 2.
  3. Successful completion of an Advanced Certificate Programme offered by the Faculty of Management Studies of OUSL, consisting of 30 SLQF credits at SLQF Level 2.
  4. Successful completion of another OUSL Advanced Certificate Programme consisting of 30 SLQF credits at SLQF Level 2.
  5. An equivalent or higher academic or professional qualification acceptable to the Senate of the Open University of Sri Lanka.
Eligible applicants are required to pass the Selection Test. The Selection Test exemption stated in the official notice applies to applicants entering through the relevant Faculty of Management Studies Advanced Certificate pathway.

Selection Test – Important Information

The paper-based, onsite Selection Test is scheduled to be conducted at the Regional and Study Centres of the Open University of Sri Lanka.

Programme and Payment Information

  • The normal duration of the degree programme is four years.
  • Students may complete the first two years and qualify for the Higher Diploma in Management – HDip (Mgmt), subject to the programme regulations.
  • The medium of instruction is English.
  • The application fee is Rs. 750.
  • The application fee may be paid online using a debit card or credit card.
  • Cash payments may also be made through an OUSL Regional Centre or Study Centre according to the instructions provided by OUSL.

Degree, postgraduate and advanced certificate opportunities offered by the Open University of Sri Lanka.

The Open University of Sri Lanka has invited online applications for six study programmes for the 2026 intake. The available opportunities include undergraduate degrees, an executive postgraduate programme and an advanced certificate programme.

Applicants should carefully check the entry qualifications, programme fees, application fees and closing dates before submitting an online application.

Three passes in one sitting at the G.C.E. A/L examination in any stream; or an accepted equivalent qualification.
Applicants may also qualify through the relevant OUSL Science or Social Sciences Foundation courses.
A minimum S pass in English at the G.C.E. O/L examination is required.
Shortlisted applicants must attend a selection interview.

Entry Qualifications
A Diploma in Nursing or General Certificate in Nursing awarded by the Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka; or an OUSL Diploma in Nursing.
Three passes in one sitting in the Science stream at the G.C.E. A/L examination.
A minimum S pass in English at the G.C.E. O/L examination or an accepted equivalent qualification.
Applicants must pass the selection interview and qualify through the interview merit list.
Eligible Diploma in Nursing holders receive exemptions from Levels 3 and 4 and are required to complete Levels 5 and 6.

BA Honours in Tamil and Tamil Language Teaching

Programme Code: BATL Medium: Tamil Honours Degree
Duration 4 Years
Level 3 Fee Package Rs. 74,000
Application Fee Rs. 500
Closing Date 15 July 2026
Entry Qualifications
Three passes at the G.C.E. A/L examination with Tamil as a subject; or
Three A/L passes in the Tamil medium, with at least a B grade in Tamil and Tamil Literature at the G.C.E. O/L examination; or
Successful completion of the National Diploma in Teaching in Tamil from a National College of Education; or
An equivalent or higher qualification accepted by the OUSL Senate.
The published Rs. 74,000 amount is the Level 3 fee package. Programme fees may be revised by the university.

Three G.C.E. A/L passes in any stream; or
OUSL Foundation or Advanced Certificate in Social Sciences; or
Three accepted subjects from the OUSL Foundation or Advanced Certificate in Science; or
A combination of accepted A/L and OUSL Foundation subjects, or another equivalent qualification accepted by the Senate.

  • Possess any other recognized 2-year Teacher Training Qualification in Teaching English as a Second Language, acceptable to the OUSL Senate, or
  • Possess passes in three (03) subjects including English Literature at the G.C.E. (A/L) Examination or an equivalent qualification.

Important Note on Selection Test

All applicants, except those who qualify under category (1) above, are required to pass a selection test conducted by the Department of Language Studies.
