✅ Entry Requirements – MPhil

Applicants should satisfy one of the following qualification pathways, subject to the university's requirements.

A qualification at SLQF Level 7 or above in the relevant field.
An Honours Bachelor's Degree at SLQF Level 6 with a minimum of 30 credits in the relevant field.
An Honours Bachelor's Degree at SLQF Level 6 with a minimum of 30 credits in the relevant field, together with a qualifying examination where applicable.
A Bachelor's Degree at SLQF Level 5 with a minimum GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 and successful completion of 30 credits equivalent to SLQF Level 5 in the same or a related field.
NVQ Level 7 with a minimum GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 and successful completion of the prescribed qualifying examination after completing the relevant 30 credits equivalent to SLQF Level 6 or 7, as determined by the university.

✅ Entry Requirements – PhD

A Master of Philosophy (MPhil) degree in the relevant field.
A Master's degree with coursework and a research component containing a minimum of 15 credits in the relevant field.
An Honours Bachelor's Degree at SLQF Level 6 with a minimum GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0, with or without a qualifying examination as determined by the university.
Registered MPhil candidates may be upgraded to PhD after at least one year of full-time study or one and a half years of part-time study, provided they demonstrate exceptional research competence and satisfy the relevant PhD requirements.

Admission Requirements

Executive officers in the plantation sector, officers of institutions related to plantation or agriculture, and proprietary planters may apply if they possess any one of the following:

A Diploma in Agriculture and Plantation Management or Diploma in Modern Agro-technology offered by the Faculty of Agriculture and Plantation Management, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka; or
Another Senate-approved diploma of at least 12 months from a recognized agriculture-related institution, together with one year of relevant work experience; or
Three G.C.E. A/L passes in Bio Science, Biosystems Technology, Agriculture, Mathematics or Commerce, or three passes at Edexcel/Cambridge Advanced Level, together with three years of relevant work experience.

Selection Process

Eligible applicants will sit an aptitude test in Basic Agriculture and English Language. Applicants who obtain at least 40% for each paper will be called for an interview. Final selection will be based on successful completion of these evaluations.

Course Fee and Scholarships

The total fee is Rs. 300,000. Rs. 100,000 must be paid at registration, and the balance may be paid in five instalments. Ten scholarships covering half of the course fee will be awarded based on financial need, educational qualifications, work experience and other relevant factors.

📋 How to Apply

Download or obtain the prescribed MPhil / PhD Application Form.
Check the official Eligibility Requirements before completing the application.
Prepare your research proposal according to the University's prescribed guidelines.
Pay the Rs. 3,500/- application fee using an accepted payment method.
Attach the payment receipt / proof of payment to the completed application.
Complete all required sections of the application clearly and accurately.
Complete the required Referee Report documentation where applicable.
Submit the completed application by registered post or by hand during office hours.
Write “Application for MPhil / PhD – 2026” on the top left-hand corner of the envelope.

⚠️ Important Information

Incomplete or illegible applications will not be considered.
Selection depends on the availability of a suitable supervisor in the relevant research field or discipline.
Selection may also depend on the availability of required laboratory facilities.
Applications received after 31 December 2026 will not be entertained.
