✅ Entry Requirements – MPhil

Applicants should satisfy one of the following qualification pathways, subject to the university's requirements.

A qualification at SLQF Level 7 or above in the relevant field.
An Honours Bachelor's Degree at SLQF Level 6 with a minimum of 30 credits in the relevant field.
An Honours Bachelor's Degree at SLQF Level 6 with a minimum of 30 credits in the relevant field, together with a qualifying examination where applicable.
A Bachelor's Degree at SLQF Level 5 with a minimum GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 and successful completion of 30 credits equivalent to SLQF Level 5 in the same or a related field.
NVQ Level 7 with a minimum GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 and successful completion of the prescribed qualifying examination after completing the relevant 30 credits equivalent to SLQF Level 6 or 7, as determined by the university.

✅ Entry Requirements – PhD

A Master of Philosophy (MPhil) degree in the relevant field.
A Master's degree with coursework and a research component containing a minimum of 15 credits in the relevant field.
An Honours Bachelor's Degree at SLQF Level 6 with a minimum GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0, with or without a qualifying examination as determined by the university.
Registered MPhil candidates may be upgraded to PhD after at least one year of full-time study or one and a half years of part-time study, provided they demonstrate exceptional research competence and satisfy the relevant PhD requirements.

🇬🇧 Commonwealth Scholarships 2027

Applications are invited from eligible Sri Lankan citizens for Commonwealth Master’s and PhD Scholarships offered for postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom in 2027.

✅ General Eligibility

Applicants must be citizens of Sri Lanka.
Applicants should be in good health.
Applicants must be prepared to live in the UK during the period of study.
Applicants must satisfy both CSC and Ministry eligibility requirements.

🎓 Eligibility – Master’s Degree

Applicants should possess a minimum 4-year Bachelor’s Degree (SLQF Level 6) with a First Class or Second Class Upper Division in the relevant field from a university recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC), Sri Lanka.

🎓 Eligibility – PhD

A minimum 4-year Bachelor’s Degree (SLQF Level 6) with a First Class or Second Class Upper Division in the relevant field.
A relevant Master’s Degree at SLQF Level 9, 10 or 11 from a recognized university.
Applicants should not already be registered for a PhD or an MPhil leading to a PhD in the UK or Sri Lanka before September/October 2026.
A supporting statement from a proposed UK supervisor from at least one institution listed in the application is required.

📑 Important Documents

Applicants must upload the required supporting documents before the deadline, including:

Proof of citizenship
All university academic transcripts
At least two signed references on letter-headed paper
Supporting statement from a UK supervisor – PhD applicants only

Applications with required documents missing will be considered incomplete and ineligible.

🏆 Selection Process

Eligible applicants will be shortlisted by the Ministry based on academic merit, including degree GPA and academic publications.

The CSC selection process considers:

Candidate merit, including academic and leadership experience
Quality of the proposed study plan
Potential impact of the applicant’s work on the development of Sri Lanka

Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview at the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education, Higher Education Division, No. 18, Ward Place, Colombo 07.

🎓 Eligibility Requirements

📌 The following is a convenient summary of the University's SLQF-based eligibility criteria. Applicants should read the official Eligibility Requirements PDF before applying.

🎓 MPhil

A candidate should possess one of the recognised qualifications, including:

A Bachelor's Honours Degree with at least 30 credits in the relevant field of research.
A Bachelor's Honours Degree with at least 30 credits in a related field, together with successful completion of a qualifying examination.
A Bachelor's Degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 0–4 scale, together with the prescribed qualifying requirements.
A relevant Postgraduate Certificate or higher qualification such as a Postgraduate Diploma or Master's Degree.
Certain recognised National Vocational Qualifications may also be considered subject to the University's prescribed academic and qualifying requirements.

🎓 PhD

A candidate should possess one of the recognised qualifications, including:

A Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in the relevant field of research.
A Master's Degree in the relevant field containing the required research component.
A Bachelor's Honours Degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 0–4 scale, subject to requirements determined by the Senate.
An eligible MPhil candidate may be upgraded to PhD after the prescribed period where research competency is considered to be of exceptional merit.
Other recognised routes may apply subject to qualifying examinations and approval by the University of Jaffna.
