Scholarship Overview

General Eligibility Requirements

• Applicant should be a citizen of Sri Lanka.
• Applicant should have a minimum of three passes at the G.C.E. A/L Examination 2024 or 2025 in any stream.
• Should possess a good knowledge of English.
• Should have obtained a “C” pass in English at G.C.E. O/L and “S” pass at G.C.E. A/L or equivalent.
• Should be in good health and ready to live in Romania during the period of study.
• Applicant should not be registered or following a course at a state university in Sri Lanka as an internal student selected by UGC.
• Applicants should not hold Romanian citizenship or citizenship of EU / Swiss Confederation / European Economic Area member state, except where a letter of agreement is in force.
• Applicants should not be members of the diplomatic corps or family members of diplomatic corps accredited in Romania.
• Applicants should not have benefited from a Romanian scholarship for the same study level.

Medium of Study

Medium: Romanian Language

Note: The preparatory year of Romanian language is included in the scholarship for selected candidates.

Terms of Award

• Tuition and enrolment fees.
• Accommodation in student dormitories within the national subsidy limit.
• A monthly allowance of 925 lei.
• Medical assistance in case of medical-surgical emergencies and potentially endemic diseases.
• The cost of air ticket to Romania and back should be borne by the student.

Applications

• Online application is available through the official foreign scholarships portal.
• Deadline for submission of application: 12 May 2026
• Applicants should submit only one application via online portal.
• Printed documents are not required to be sent by post.
• Incorrect or false statements may lead to disqualification and withdrawal of the award.
• Incomplete or late applications will be rejected.

Nominations & Selection

• Candidates will be shortlisted based on their Z-score.
• Shortlisted candidates will be called for a structured interview by the Ministry.
• Interview notice will be sent via email.
• Nominations will be forwarded to the Romanian Embassy in Sri Lanka.
• Final selection will be made by the Government of Romania.
• Nomination is not a confirmation of award.
• Any form of canvassing, written or verbal, will be considered as disqualification.
• The final decision rests solely with the Secretary of the Ministry.

Special Notes

• Candidates awarded this scholarship will not be considered for the UGC university admission process in Sri Lanka.
• Scholarship conditions may vary according to Romanian Government criteria without prior notice.
• If a selected student declines the offer after the selection process, he/she will not be considered for future scholarships offered by the Ministry.
• Extension of the scholarship period will not be recommended by the Ministry.
