🎓 Eligibility Requirements

📌 The following is a convenient summary of the University's SLQF-based eligibility criteria. Applicants should read the official Eligibility Requirements PDF before applying.

🎓 MPhil

A candidate should possess one of the recognised qualifications, including:

1. A Bachelor's Honours Degree with at least 30 credits in the relevant field of research.
2. A Bachelor's Honours Degree with at least 30 credits in a related field, together with successful completion of a qualifying examination.
3. A Bachelor's Degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 0–4 scale, together with the prescribed qualifying requirements.
4. A relevant Postgraduate Certificate or higher qualification such as a Postgraduate Diploma or Master's Degree.
5. Certain recognised National Vocational Qualifications may also be considered subject to the University's prescribed academic and qualifying requirements.

🎓 PhD

A candidate should possess one of the recognised qualifications, including:

1. A Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in the relevant field of research.
2. A Master's Degree in the relevant field containing the required research component.
3. A Bachelor's Honours Degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 0–4 scale, subject to requirements determined by the Senate.
4. An eligible MPhil candidate may be upgraded to PhD after the prescribed period where research competency is considered to be of exceptional merit.
5. Other recognised routes may apply subject to qualifying examinations and approval by the University of Jaffna.

📋 How to Apply

1. Download or obtain the prescribed MPhil / PhD Application Form.
2. Check the official Eligibility Requirements before completing the application.
3. Prepare your research proposal according to the University's prescribed guidelines.
4. Pay the Rs. 3,500/- application fee using an accepted payment method.
5. Attach the payment receipt / proof of payment to the completed application.
6. Complete all required sections of the application clearly and accurately.
7. Complete the required Referee Report documentation where applicable.
8. Submit the completed application by registered post or by hand during office hours.
9. Write “Application for MPhil / PhD – 2026” on the top left-hand corner of the envelope.
