Course Overview

Applications are now invited for the BA (Hons) in English and English Language Teaching offered by the Open University of Sri Lanka for the academic year 2026/2027. This degree programme is designed for students who wish to build their academic and professional knowledge in English, literature, and English language teaching.

Application Details

  • Online Application Fee: Rs. 750/-
  • Total Course Fee (for 4 years): LKR 400,000 approx.
  • Issue of Application: 20 April 2026
  • Closing of Application: 10 June 2026

Admission Requirements

  • Possess the OUSL Diploma in English Language & Literature (application required), or
  • Possess a Diploma in Teaching English (ESL) of 2 years’ duration from a National College of Education (NCOE), or
  • Possess any other recognized 2-year Teacher Training Qualification in Teaching English as a Second Language, acceptable to the OUSL Senate, or
  • Possess passes in three (03) subjects including English Literature at the G.C.E. (A/L) Examination or an equivalent qualification.

Important Note on Selection Test

All applicants, except those who qualify under category (1) above, are required to pass a selection test conducted by the Department of Language Studies.

Programme Details

  • Duration of the Programme: 4 Years
  • Programme Offered At: All regional centres
  • Mode: Students will be required to attend both online and onsite academic activities
  • Payment Method: Application fee can be paid online using a debit/credit card
  • Cash Payment: Applicants can make the application payment in cash to Regional/Study Centres of OUSL (except on Mondays)

Selection Test Schedule

  • Date: 21 June 2026
  • Time: 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM
  • Type: A paper-based examination will be held on-site
  • Centres: All Regional Centres
