Examination Department Plans Timetable Revision

The Department of Examinations is preparing to revise the timetable relating to the GCE Advanced Level Chemistry examination.

Commissioner General of Examinations Indika Liyanage stated that the decision was taken after considering special requests received from school principals, teachers and students.

She made the announcement while participating in a media briefing held at the Department of Government Information on 24 June 2026.

Reason for the Proposed Revision

Under the existing examination timetable, the Common General Test and the General English paper have been scheduled between Chemistry Paper I and Chemistry Paper II.

School principals and teachers have pointed out that placing other examination papers between the two Chemistry papers could create additional pressure and inconvenience for students preparing for the subject.

Taking these concerns into consideration, the Department of Examinations intends to rearrange the Chemistry examination timetable in a manner similar to the arrangements followed during previous years.

The Commissioner General stated that the revision would be made for the convenience and wellbeing of students sitting for the Advanced Level examination.

Important Points

The revision follows requests made by principals, teachers and students.

The present timetable places the Common General Test and General English between Chemistry Paper I and Paper II.

Educators believe the current arrangement may create additional pressure and inconvenience for students.

The revised arrangement is expected to follow a pattern similar to previous examination years.

Students must wait for the officially revised timetable before confirming the examination dates.

Important Notice for Candidates

This announcement concerns a planned revision. Candidates should follow the official notices issued by the Department of Examinations and use only the final revised timetable when planning for the examination.

General Information Technology GIT Examination 2026 online application for Grade 12 school candidates in Sri Lanka

The Department of Examinations has issued instructions for submitting online applications for the General Information Technology Examination 2026. Applications are accepted for school candidates studying in Grade 12 in 2026 who are expected to sit the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination for the first time in 2027. Schools can submit applications online from 22 June to 16 July 2026.

Application Method Online

The Department has clearly stated that the closing date will not be extended. Schools should complete and verify all applications before 16 July 2026.

Who Can Apply?

Applications should be submitted only for students who:

Are studying in Grade 12 during the year 2026.
Are expected to sit the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination for the first time in 2027.
Are applying as school candidates.

The application must be submitted through the relevant school using the School Code and Password issued to the school.

Detailed English Translation of the Instructions

1. Online Application

Applications must be submitted only through the online system. Schools may access the registration facility through the Department of Examinations website or directly through the online application portal.

Visit the Department of Examinations website and select Our Services.
Select Exam Information Centre.
Select GIT – 2026 Students Registration (School).
Log in using the School Code and Password provided to the school.

2. Eligible Students

Schools must submit applications only for students studying in Grade 12 in 2026 who are expected to sit the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination for the first time in 2027.

3. Selection of Examination Medium

The examination medium must be selected carefully when completing the application. The selected medium will not be changed later for any reason.

The principal and the responsible teacher must therefore confirm the correct examination medium before submitting each application.

4. Verification and School Records

Carefully check all information entered in the online application.
Print the completed application details and obtain the candidate's signature after confirming that the information is correct.
Keep the signed copy safely at the school as an official examination document.
After completing the data entry, download the PDF containing the submitted information.
Compare the downloaded PDF with the Excel file prepared by the school.
Confirm that all eligible candidates and all required details have been included correctly.

The principal and the responsible teacher are fully responsible for verifying the accuracy and completeness of the submitted data.

5. Candidates with Special Educational Needs

For candidates with visual impairments, hearing impairments or other special educational needs, schools must select:

Special Education Needs Students' Additional Data and then click Go to Data Form.

All requested information relating to the candidate's special needs must be entered accurately.

The notice also refers to special examination arrangements at:

School for the Blind, Ratmalana.
School for the Deaf and Blind, Polommaruwa, Tangalle.

6. Confirmation of Identity

Every school candidate must prove their identity at the examination using the National Identity Card issued by the Department for Registration of Persons.

Schools must take the necessary steps early to ensure that students obtain their National Identity Cards before the examination.

Instead of the National Identity Card, only the following may be accepted:

A valid passport.
A valid driving licence.

No other identity documents will be accepted.

විභාගයට ජාතික හැඳුනුම්පත, වලංගු විදේශ ගමන් බලපත්‍රය හෝ වලංගු රියදුරු බලපත්‍රය අවශ්‍ය වේ.
