  • Service and grade: Sri Lanka Foreign Service - Grade III

Educational Qualification

Applicants must possess a degree from a foreign or state university recognized by the University Grants Commission, a degree awarded by a university established by an Act of Parliament in Sri Lanka, or a degree recognized under Section 25A of the Universities Act, No. 16 of 1978.

Age Limit as at 06 October 2026

  • General applicants: Must have attained 22 years and must not have attained 28 years. Eligible dates of birth are from 06 October 1998 to 06 October 2004, inclusive.
  • Confirmed Public/Provincial Public Service officers: Must not have attained 35 years and must have been born on or after 06 October 1991, with a satisfactory service record.

Other Main Conditions

  • Must be a citizen of Sri Lanka and of excellent character.
  • Must be physically and mentally fit to serve in Sri Lanka or anywhere in the world.
  • A person ordained in a religious order is not eligible.
  • A person may sit this recruitment examination on no more than three occasions.
  • All required qualifications must be satisfied by the closing date.

Written Examination

The examination is available in Sinhala, Tamil and English. Applicants must sit all papers in the medium selected in the application.

Important: The MCQ paper will be held first. Only candidates who obtain its minimum pass mark may sit the remaining papers. To qualify for interview consideration, candidates must pass every paper and obtain an aggregate of at least 300 marks, subject to the official cut-off and the stated limit on the number called.

ශ්‍රී ලංකා විදේශ සේවයේ III ශ්‍රේණියට බඳවා ගැනීම සඳහා විවෘත තරග විභාගයට අයදුම්පත් කැඳවා ඇත. පුරප්පාඩු 25ක් පවතී. පිළිගත් උපාධියක් තිබිය යුතු අතර, සාමාන්‍ය අයදුම්කරුවන් අවසන් දිනට වයස අවුරුදු 22 සම්පූර්ණ කර තිබිය යුතු අතර 28 සම්පූර්ණ කර නොතිබිය යුතුය. තහවුරු කළ රාජ්‍ය/පළාත් රාජ්‍ය සේවකයින් වයස අවුරුදු 35 සම්පූර්ණ කර නොතිබිය යුතුය. අයදුම්පත් 2026 සැප්තැම්බර් 07 පෙ.ව. 9.00 සිට 2026 ඔක්තෝබර් 06 ප.ව. 9.00 දක්වා මාර්ගගතව ඉදිරිපත් කළ යුතුය. විභාග ගාස්තුව රු. 1,200කි. සම්පූර්ණ කොන්දේසි සඳහා නිල ගැසට් නිවේදනය කියවන්න.

இலங்கை வெளிநாட்டுச் சேவையின் தரம் III இற்கு ஆட்சேர்ப்பு செய்வதற்கான திறந்த போட்டிப் பரீட்சைக்கு விண்ணப்பங்கள் கோரப்பட்டுள்ளன. 25 வெற்றிடங்கள் உள்ளன. அங்கீகரிக்கப்பட்ட பட்டம் அவசியம். பொதுவான விண்ணப்பதாரர்கள் முடிவுத் திகதியில் 22 வயதைப் பூர்த்தி செய்திருப்பதுடன் 28 வயதைப் பூர்த்தி செய்திருக்கக்கூடாது. உறுதிப்படுத்தப்பட்ட அரச/மாகாண அரச சேவை அலுவலர்கள் 35 வயதைப் பூர்த்தி செய்திருக்கக்கூடாது. இணையவழி விண்ணப்பம் 07 செப்டெம்பர் 2026 காலை 9.00 மணிக்குத் திறந்து 06 ஒக்டோபர் 2026 இரவு 9.00 மணிக்கு முடிவடையும். பரீட்சைக் கட்டணம் ரூ. 1,200. முழுமையான நிபந்தனைகளுக்கு உத்தியோகபூர்வ வர்த்தமானி அறிவித்தலை வாசிக்கவும்.

Railway Security Recruitment 2026 – Main Details

The Sri Lanka Railways has invited applications from qualified Sri Lankan citizens for the Open Competitive Examination to recruit Railway Security Officers (Male/Female) to Grade III of the Railway Security Service.

Educational and Other Qualifications

Educational qualification

Applicants must have passed six subjects at the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination, including Sinhala/Tamil/English and Mathematics, with at least two credit passes, in not more than two sittings.

Age requirement

Applicants must be not less than 18 years and not more than 28 years as at 28 September 2026. According to the Gazette, eligible applicants must have been born on or before 28.09.2008 and on or after 29.09.1997.

General requirements

  • Must be a citizen of Sri Lanka and of excellent character.
  • All applicants must be unmarried.
  • Must be physically and mentally fit to serve in any part of Sri Lanka and perform the duties of the post.
  • All required qualifications must be fulfilled by the date specified in the Gazette notice.

Physical Requirements

  • Male height: At least 5 feet 6 inches, without footwear.
  • Female height: At least 5 feet 2 inches, without footwear.
  • Male chest: At least 32 inches.
  • Eyesight: Required standard without spectacles, subject to the official medical/eyesight test.
Important: Candidates must also face a preliminary fitness assessment. Only candidates who obtain 50% or more at this stage will proceed to the written examination.

Fitness assessment includes

  • 1,000-metre run
  • Chin-ups
  • Push-ups
  • Sit-ups
  • Squat thrusts
  • Kim’s Game / memory test

Salary and Selection Process

Salary scale (RS 1-2025): Rs. 49,550 – 7 × 540 – 27 × 670 – Rs. 71,420, together with other government-approved allowances. The initial salary step is Rs. 49,550.

The post is permanent and the appointment is subject to a three-year probation period.

Written examination

  • Intelligence Test: 100 marks; minimum pass mark 50; duration 1 hour.
  • Language Ability: 100 marks; minimum pass mark 50; duration 2 hours.

The examination is available in Sinhala, Tamil and English. The selected medium cannot be changed later. The fitness assessment and written examination will be held in Colombo only.

How to Apply

  1. Prepare the application on A4 paper according to the specimen application included in the Gazette.
  2. Complete it in the language medium in which you intend to sit the examination.
  3. Pay the examination fee of Rs. 1,200 to the account stated in the Gazette and securely affix the original receipt to the application. Keep a photocopy.
  4. Obtain the required certification of your signature.
  5. Send the completed application by registered post so that it is received on or before 28 September 2026.
  6. Write the name of the examination clearly on the top-left corner of the envelope.

Applications are invited from eligible Sri Lankan citizens for the Limited Competitive Examination for recruitment to Grade III of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service – 2026.

Salary Scale

The monthly salary scale applicable to this post under Public Administration Circular No. 10/2025 is:

Rs. 82,150 – 10 × 2,400 – 8 × 2,940 – 17 × 3,900 – Rs. 195,970 (SL-1-2025)

Other allowances paid by the Government to public officers may also apply.

Basic Eligibility Requirements

  • Applicants must be citizens of Sri Lanka.
  • Applicants must possess an excellent character.
  • Applicants must be physically and mentally fit to serve in any part of Sri Lanka.
  • Applicants must be confirmed in a relevant permanent and pensionable post or service in the Public Service or Provincial Public Service.
  • Applicants must not have received a disciplinary punishment under the provisions specified in Public Service Commission Circular No. 01/2020 by the qualification date.

Educational Qualifications and Service Experience

Applicants must satisfy one of the following routes:

  1. Possess a recognized degree and have completed at least five years of active and satisfactory service in an eligible permanent and pensionable post/service under the applicable MN or SL-1 salary category;
  2. Or have completed at least ten years of active and satisfactory service in an eligible permanent and pensionable post/service under the applicable MN or SL-1 salary category.
The detailed definitions of recognized degrees, eligible salary codes, qualifying posts and service periods must be checked in the official Gazette before applying.

Age Limit

Applicants must not be more than 53 years of age on the qualification date. Accordingly, only persons born on or after 28 August 1973 are eligible to apply.

Number of Attempts

An applicant is not permitted to sit for this Limited Competitive Examination more than three times, subject to the conditions stated in the Gazette.

Written Examination

Paper 1: General Intelligence
Marks: 100 | Pass mark: 50 | Duration: 1½ hours
Paper 2: Social, Economic and Political Background of Sri Lanka and Global Trends
Marks: 100 | Pass mark: 50 | Duration: 3 hours
Paper 3: Public Administration Related Study I – Establishments Code, Public Service Commission Procedural Rules and Financial Regulations
Marks: 100 | Pass mark: 50 | Duration: 3 hours
Paper 4: Public Administration Related Study II – Creative, Analytical and Communication Skills
Marks: 100 | Pass mark: 50 | Duration: 3 hours

The examination will be conducted in Sinhala, Tamil and English. Applicants must answer all papers in the language medium selected in the application. The selected medium cannot be changed later.

Selection Process

  • Written competitive examination
  • General interview to verify qualifications
  • Structured interview carrying a maximum of 25 marks
  • Final selection based on the total marks obtained at the written examination and structured interview
