Railway Security Recruitment 2026 – Main Details

The Sri Lanka Railways has invited applications from qualified Sri Lankan citizens for the Open Competitive Examination to recruit Railway Security Officers (Male/Female) to Grade III of the Railway Security Service.

Educational and Other Qualifications

Educational qualification

Applicants must have passed six subjects at the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination, including Sinhala/Tamil/English and Mathematics, with at least two credit passes, in not more than two sittings.

Age requirement

Applicants must be not less than 18 years and not more than 28 years as at 28 September 2026. According to the Gazette, eligible applicants must have been born on or before 28.09.2008 and on or after 29.09.1997.

General requirements

• Must be a citizen of Sri Lanka and of excellent character.
• All applicants must be unmarried.
• Must be physically and mentally fit to serve in any part of Sri Lanka and perform the duties of the post.
• All required qualifications must be fulfilled by the date specified in the Gazette notice.

Physical Requirements

• Male height: At least 5 feet 6 inches, without footwear.
• Female height: At least 5 feet 2 inches, without footwear.
• Male chest: At least 32 inches.
• Eyesight: Required standard without spectacles, subject to the official medical/eyesight test.

Fitness assessment includes

• 1,000-metre run
• Chin-ups
• Push-ups
• Sit-ups
• Squat thrusts
• Kim’s Game / memory test

Salary and Selection Process

Salary scale (RS 1-2025): Rs. 49,550 – 7 × 540 – 27 × 670 – Rs. 71,420, together with other government-approved allowances. The initial salary step is Rs. 49,550.

The post is permanent and the appointment is subject to a three-year probation period.

Written examination

• Intelligence Test: 100 marks; minimum pass mark 50; duration 1 hour.
• Language Ability: 100 marks; minimum pass mark 50; duration 2 hours.

The examination is available in Sinhala, Tamil and English. The selected medium cannot be changed later. The fitness assessment and written examination will be held in Colombo only.

How to Apply

1. Prepare the application on A4 paper according to the specimen application included in the Gazette.
2. Complete it in the language medium in which you intend to sit the examination.
3. Pay the examination fee of Rs. 1,200 to the account stated in the Gazette and securely affix the original receipt to the application. Keep a photocopy.
4. Obtain the required certification of your signature.
5. Send the completed application by registered post so that it is received on or before 28 September 2026.
6. Write the name of the examination clearly on the top-left corner of the envelope.
