Assistant Engine Room Technician | Greaser
Applications are invited from suitably qualified citizens of Sri Lanka for vacancies at the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA). According to the official vacancy notice, recruitment is being carried out for the following technical positions.

01. Assistant Engine Room Technician
Service Category: Technical
Salary Code: 7.3 (T3)
Annual Increment: Rs. 1,005/-
Approximate Monthly Gross Salary: Rs. 121,000/-
Educational & Professional Qualifications
Applicants should have passed the G.C.E. (O/L) Examination in six subjects, including Language and Mathematics, in not more than two sittings.
Applicants should also possess a certificate of not less than 1000 Horse Power (750KW) issued by the Director General of Merchant Shipping of Sri Lanka under the 1907 Launch Ordinance.
In addition, applicants should possess one of the following:
- National Certificate of Technology (NCT) in the Mechanical or Shipping sector, or
- A relevant three-year full-time certificate issued by a Government Institute or recognised Industrial/Vocational Training Institute, or
- An equivalent certificate recognised by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission, or
- NVQ Level 4 qualification relevant to the field.
Experience
Three years of experience as an Assistant Engine Room Technician in a Government institution or recognised private institution in a similar post.
Other Compulsory Requirements
- Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting
- Elementary First Aid
- Personal Survival Techniques
- Marine English
- Occupational Health and Safety
The required courses should be completed within one year after recruitment and the relevant certificates should be submitted.
Applicants should also have good knowledge of equipment used in tugs or dredgers and their maintenance, together with knowledge of nautical knots, mooring and boating skills.
02. Greaser
Service Category: Semi-Skilled
Salary Code: 10.3 (SS3)
Annual Increment: Rs. 365/-
Approximate Monthly Gross Salary: Rs. 111,000/-
Educational & Professional Qualifications
Applicants should have passed the G.C.E. (O/L) Examination in six subjects including Language and Mathematics in not more than two sittings.
Applicants should possess a certificate of not less than 1000 Horse Power (750KW) issued by the Director General of Merchant Shipping of Sri Lanka.
Applicants should also possess either:
- A relevant certificate in the profession or fitting sector issued by a recognised Technical or Vocational Training Institute, or
- NVQ Level 3 qualification relevant to the profession or fitting sector.
Experience
Three years of experience as a Greaser in a Government institution or a recognised private institution in a similar post.
Other Compulsory Requirements
- Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting
- Elementary First Aid
- Personal Survival Techniques
These courses should be completed within one year after recruitment and the relevant certificates submitted.
General Requirements
- Applicants should be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of the post and serve in any part of Sri Lanka.
- Applicants should possess an excellent character.
- Applicants may be required to pass a medical examination depending on the decision of the Interview Board and the nature of the post.
- The posts are permanent and entitled to Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) and Employees’ Trust Fund (ETF) benefits.
- Applicants already serving in Government or State Corporations should forward applications through their respective Heads of Departments or Corporations.
- All applicants should successfully face the interview and practical test relevant to the post.
