Giving Gifts to Teachers by Students and Parents
The Ministry of Education has issued Circular No. 33/2016 regarding the practice of students and parents giving various gifts to teachers.
The circular refers to instances where money is collected from students or parents, particularly on occasions such as the end of the school year, Teachers' Day and similar events, for the purpose of presenting gifts to class teachers or subject teachers.
The Ministry highlights that organised collection of money for such gifts can create difficulties for parents, especially families facing financial difficulties.
School principals and teachers are therefore expected to ensure that students and parents are not placed under pressure to collect money, provide gifts or participate in activities connected with such collections.
Principals, teachers, parents and other members of the school community are advised to follow the instructions contained in the official Ministry of Education circular.

අධ්යාපන අමාත්යාංශය විසින් නිකුත් කරන ලද 33/2016 චක්රලේඛය මගින් සිසුන් හා දෙමාපියන් විසින් ගුරුවරුන් වෙත විවිධ ත්යාග ලබාදීම සඳහා මුදල් එකතු කිරීම සම්බන්ධයෙන් උපදෙස් ලබා දී ඇත.
වසර අවසානය, ගුරු දිනය සහ වෙනත් අවස්ථාවලදී ගුරුවරුන් සඳහා ත්යාග ලබාදීමට සිසුන්ගෙන් හෝ දෙමාපියන්ගෙන් මුදල් එකතු කිරීම හේතුවෙන් විශේෂයෙන් ආර්ථික අපහසුතා ඇති පවුල්වලට අපහසුතා ඇතිවිය හැකි බැවින් එවැනි කටයුතු සම්බන්ධයෙන් විදුහල්පතිවරුන් සහ ගුරුවරුන් අවධානයෙන් කටයුතු කළ යුතු බව චක්රලේඛයේ සඳහන් වේ.

வருட இறுதி, ஆசிரியர் தினம் மற்றும் இதர நிகழ்வுகளின்போது ஆசிரியர்களுக்கு பரிசுகள் வழங்குவதற்காக மாணவர்கள் அல்லது பெற்றோர்களிடமிருந்து பணம் சேகரிப்பது, குறிப்பாக பொருளாதார சிரமங்களை எதிர்கொள்ளும் குடும்பங்களுக்கு சுமையாக அமையக்கூடும். எனவே இவ்வாறான நடவடிக்கைகள் தொடர்பில் அதிபர்கள் மற்றும் ஆசிரியர்கள் உரிய கவனம் செலுத்த வேண்டும் என அறிவுறுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளது.
