Director Vacancy – Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture

Applications are invited from suitably qualified Sri Lankan citizens for the post of Director of the Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture (PGIA), University of Peradeniya.

The PGIA is Sri Lanka’s specialized institute for postgraduate studies in agriculture. The selected person is expected to provide academic and administrative leadership and help expand the Institute’s academic, research and outreach activities.

Qualifications and expected profile

• Must be a Sri Lankan citizen.
• Should possess postgraduate qualifications, preferably a PhD related to Agriculture.
• Should have administrative experience and be below 63 years of age.
• Should possess a strong academic background and an excellent record in research and management.
• Should demonstrate academic leadership, sound interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary academic environment.
• Should be able to establish productive links with University bodies and national and international organizations.

Nature and tenure of appointment

Under the PGIA Ordinance, the Director serves as the Institute’s Full-Time Officer, Principal Executive Officer, Principal Academic Officer and Accounting Officer. The Director is also the ex-officio Chairman of the Board of Management and Coordinating Committee and an ex-officio member of each Board of Study.

The appointment will be for three years from the date of appointment or until the appointee reaches 65 years of age, whichever occurs first.

• A comprehensive curriculum vitae, including the applicant’s date of birth.
• A statement of vision for the development of the Institute.
• A brief account of the applicant’s proposed achievements if appointed.
• Applicants employed in the Public Service, Corporations, Statutory Bodies or Higher Educational Institutions should include a letter from the employer stating whether they can be released if appointed.
