Applications are invited for certificate and diploma training programs designed to target talented young people who desire higher education in the subjects of Painting/Sculpture/ Wood Carving/Stone Carving/Ceramics/Brass Casting and Engraving.

Duration 30 Months

Medium - Sinhala

Fee - Free + Daily Allowance 500

Qualifications required for applicants :

  • Between the ages of 18 - 30 as at 01.03.2026 and
  • Passed in GCE (O/L) in Art and Sinhala subjects
  • Having obtained a distinction for Art at the G.C.E. (O/L) or having studied the G.C.E. (A/L) Art subject is considered a special qualification.
  • Children of traditional artists can also apply for this, and it is not necessary to have fulfilled the basic educational qualifications. (They must confirm that they are members of a traditional artistic family and the certified letters from Grama Sevaka, Justice of the Peace, Religious Heads, approved by Divisional Secretary should be submitted.)

Gen Z Less IQ Than Gen Y - New U.S. Study


According to a recent American study, the intelligence levels (IQ) of the current generation (Gen Z) have been found to be lower compared to the previous generation.

Dr. Palitha Bandara Subasinghe, a Forensic Medical Officer at the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital, stated that neuroscientist and educator Dr. Jared Cooney Horvath submitted these research findings to the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation.

Education Ministry has released the Results of School Music Competition Final Results of the Year 2024 & 2025

2024 Results
Results of the National Round of the "All Island School Music Competition - 2024" held on 26th and 27th October 2024 and 02nd November 2024 in several schools in Rajagiriya and Borella towns, based on the recommendations of the Evaluation Board, are as follows. The validity date of this certificate is 02nd November 2024.

2025 Results
Results of the National Round of the "All Island School Music Competition - 2025" held on 27th and 28th September 2025 and 20th and 21st October 2025 in several schools in Rajagiriya, Borella and Colombo cities, based on the recommendations of the Evaluation Board, are as follows. The validity date of this certificate is 21st October 2025.

Supervision of Student-Organized University Events (UGC)


University Grants Commission has released a commission circular on supervision of Student - organized university Events.

Circular No - 02 / 2026

Circular Date - 06.02.2026

Circular emphasized that, all student-organized university events be conducted under the supervision of a responsible university officer until further notice. Please ensure that a staff member or a responsible university official is present at all times during rehearsals and preparations (including setting up decorations), during the event itself, and after the event until all students have dispersed. Events that do not comply with the above directive should not be held under any circumstances."
