If you are applying for a National Identity Card (NIC) for the first time in Sri Lanka, this guide will help you understand the basic requirements, who should certify your application, documents you need to submit, and how to download the application form. Obtaing National Identity Card for the First Time

Complete guide for Sri Lankan citizens to apply for a National Identity Card for the first time.

Every person who is a citizen of Sri Lanka and who has attained or attains the age of 15 years shall apply for a National Identity Card.

Basic Requirements

Who Can Apply?

Every Sri Lankan citizen who has reached the age of 15 years can apply for a National Identity Card.

Main Condition

The application must be submitted through the relevant certifying officer according to the applicant category.

Submitting an Application

Applicant	Application Certifying Officer
School Applicants	Principal or Parivenadhipathi
Applicants who have fulfilled the basic requirements	Grama Niladhari of the area of residence. Counter signature of the Divisional Secretary is mandatory.
Estate residents who have fulfilled the basic requirements	Estate Superintendent

It is mandatory for every applicant to forward the application for the National Identity Card through the relevant certifying officer.

விண்ணப்பத்தை சமர்ப்பித்தல்

விண்ணப்பதாரர்	விண்ணப்பத்தை சான்றுறுதிப்படுத்தும் உத்தியோகத்தர்
பாடசாலை விண்ணப்பதாரர்கள்	அதிபர் அல்லது பிரிவெனாதிபதி
மேற்கண்ட அடிப்படைத் தகுதிகளைப் பூர்த்தி செய்த விண்ணப்பதாரர்கள்	வசிக்கும் பகுதியின் கிராம அலுவலர் (பிரதேச செயலாளரின் மேலொப்பம் கட்டாயம்)
மேற்கூறிய அடிப்படைத் தகுதிகளைப் பூர்த்தி செய்த தோட்ட குடியிருப்பாளர்கள்	தோட்ட அதிகாரி

Documents to be Submitted Along with the Application

Duly completed application (Form D.R.P/1,7,8)
Birth certificate or extract of the birth registry certified by the Additional District Registrar
ICAO standard photograph obtained within 06 months
Receipt of payment of application fee

මාස 06ක කාලයක් ඇතුළත ලබාගත් ICAO ප්‍රමිතියෙන් යුතු ඡායාරූපය
ඉල්ලුම්පත් ගාස්තුව ගෙවූ බවට කුවිතාන්සිය
