The National Institute of Library and Information Sciences (NILIS), University of Colombo, invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the following academic positions.

• Lecturer (Probationary)

• Senior Lecturer Grade II
• Senior Lecturer Grade I

Educational Qualifications

Applicants should possess qualifications in Library Science or Information Science. The exact requirements vary according to the position applied for.

Lecturer (Probationary)

Applicants should generally possess a degree specialising in Library Science or Information Science with the required class or honours. Certain categories also require a relevant doctoral or master’s degree with an approved research component.

Lecturer (Unconfirmed)

Applicants should possess the relevant degree and postgraduate qualifications prescribed in the official advertisement, together with fewer than six years of relevant teaching, professional, research or postgraduate-study experience.

Senior Lecturer Grade II

Applicants should possess the prescribed academic and postgraduate qualifications and at least six years of relevant experience.

Senior Lecturer Grade I

Applicants should possess the prescribed academic and postgraduate qualifications and at least twelve years of relevant experience. At least six years of this experience should have been gained after obtaining the specified postgraduate qualification.

Salary Scale

Salary Code: U-AC 3
Rs. 94,400 – Rs. 187,820 per month, according to the applicable grade and salary scale as at 01.01.2025.

• Lecturer (Probationary): Rs. 94,400 – Rs. 118,400
• Lecturer (Unconfirmed): Rs. 121,340 – Rs. 136,040
• Senior Lecturer Grade II: Rs. 138,980 – Rs. 171,320
• Senior Lecturer Grade I: Rs. 160,520 – Rs. 187,820

Government-approved allowances applicable to the university system will also be paid.
