The University of Colombo Institute for Agro-Technology and Rural Sciences (UCIARS), Weligatta, Hambantota, invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the Post of Director.

The selected applicant will hold office for three years from the date of appointment or until reaching 65 years of age, whichever occurs first.

🏛️ About UCIARS

UCIARS was established in September 2008 and is affiliated with the University of Colombo. The institute conducts the Bachelor’s Degree in Agro-Technology and provides education, training, research, development, consultancy and community extension programmes.

Its main academic and development areas include Agro-Technology, Agri-business and Rural Sciences.

👤 Role of the Director

The Director will serve as the:

• Principal Executive Officer of the institute
• Principal Academic Officer
• Accounting Officer
• Chairman of the Board of Management
• Chairman of the Academic Syndicate and Boards of Study
• Ex-officio member of the relevant governing bodies
• Member of the University Senate

The Director will also be responsible for maintaining discipline within the institute under the direction of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo.

• Proven leadership and managerial experience
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• A clear understanding of relevant policy matters
• A clear vision for the future development of the institute

📎 Documents to Be Submitted

1. A duly completed application form downloaded from the UCIARS website.
2. A complete Curriculum Vitae, including the applicant’s date of birth, together with a certified copy of the birth certificate.
3. A statement of vision for the development of the institute.
4. A brief account of what the applicant proposes to achieve if appointed as Director.
5. Certified copies of academic and professional certificates and supporting evidence relating to leadership, research publications, appreciations and administration.
6. Where applicable, a report highlighting accomplishments during the applicant’s previous period as Director.

🏢 Public-Sector Applicants

Applicants serving in the public sector, corporations, statutory bodies and higher educational institutions must forward their applications through the heads of their respective institutions.

The head of the institution should confirm that the applicant can be released if selected for the post.
