🇬🇧 English – Promotion Details

The Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government has invited applications from eligible officers in Grade I of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service (SLAS) for promotion to Special Grade.

According to the official notice dated 20 October 2026, applications are invited to fill 43 vacancies existing in the Special Grade as at 01 July 2026.

Eligibility Requirements

1. Possess a postgraduate degree from a UGC-recognized university or recognized degree-awarding institute in a relevant field.
2. Complete five years of active and satisfactory service in Grade I and earn five salary increments after promotion to Grade I.
3. Complete at least 18 years of active service as at the date of promotion.
4. Maintain satisfactory or higher annual performance evaluations for the preceding five years.
5. Fulfil the disciplinary requirements of Public Service Commission Circular No. 01/2020.
6. Pass the third Efficiency Bar Examination or obtain an applicable exemption.

Method of Promotion

Promotions will be based on seniority, subject to the relevant interview procedure and approval of the Public Service Commission.

2. Complete the application accurately and attach the required certified supporting documents.
3. Submit the application through the relevant Secretary of Ministry, Chief Secretary, District Secretary or Head of Department.

Officers who previously applied for Special Grade promotion as at 01.01.2026 need to submit only the application form, as stated in the official notice.

Certain retired officers who meet the conditions specified in paragraph 07 of the notice may also apply. Applicants should read the official document for complete requirements.
