About the Vacancy
The Council of the University of the Visual and Performing Arts invites applications for the position of Vice-Chancellor in accordance with Section 34 of the Universities Act No. 16 of 1978, subsequent amendments and University Grants Commission Circular No. 03/2023.
The Vice-Chancellor is the Principal Executive Officer, Principal Academic Officer and Accounting Officer of the University.
Applicant Profile
- Must be a citizen of Sri Lanka.
- Must be below 63 years of age by the application closing date.
- Should have outstanding academic achievements and a strong research profile.
- Should demonstrate proven leadership qualities and interpersonal skills.
- Must demonstrate understanding of university policies, academic excellence and institutional responsibilities.
- Should demonstrate integrity, transparency, accountability and effective leadership.
Documents Required
- A statement of vision for the development of the University.
- A brief account of the achievements proposed if appointed as Vice-Chancellor.
- Curriculum Vitae including date of birth.
- Copy of National Identity Card or valid passport.
- Additional supporting documents, where applicable.
Present or former Vice-Chancellors of the same University must also submit the additional accomplishment report specified in the notice.
Applicants currently serving in the Public Service or other specified institutions must provide the required letter from their employer.
Selection Procedure
Eligible applicants will be invited to make a presentation before a Special Council meeting. The presentation must be at least 10 minutes and must not exceed 15 minutes.

Applications must reach the Registrar on or before 3.00 PM on 20 October 2026. Late or incomplete applications will be rejected. The position applied for must be mentioned on the top-left corner of the envelope.
