Introduction

The Council of the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka invites applications from suitably qualified Sri Lankan citizens for the post of Vice-Chancellor of the University, in terms of the Universities Act and relevant University Grants Commission circular provisions.

Main Details

Role of the Vice-Chancellor

The Vice-Chancellor is the full-time officer of the University and functions as the Principal Executive Officer, Principal Academic Officer and Accounting Officer of the University. The Vice-Chancellor is also an ex-officio member and Chairman of both the Council and the Senate.

Term of Office

The appointment will be for a term of three years or until the appointee completes 65 years of age, whichever occurs earlier, unless vacating office earlier or removed according to the Universities Act.

Eligibility & Expected Qualities

• Applicant should be a citizen of Sri Lanka.
• Applicant should be less than 63 years of age as at the closing date.
• Strong record of high academic achievement and research profile.
• Leadership qualities and interpersonal skills.
• Clear understanding of policy issues and university administration.
• Commitment to academic excellence, transparency, accountability and non-partisan leadership.

Documents to be Submitted

• Complete Curriculum Vitae including date of birth.
• Personal statement of vision for the development of the University.
• Brief account of what the applicant proposes to achieve if appointed.
• If applicable, report of previous accomplishments as Vice-Chancellor.
• Letter from employer indicating release possibility, if serving in public service or relevant institution.

Interview / Evaluation

Candidates may be summoned for evaluation and interview at a Special Council meeting. Candidates will also be required to make a brief presentation of minimum 10 minutes and not exceeding 15 minutes.
