Public Hearing on Islandwide Power Failure on 09.02.2025


The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (Commission) hereby notifies its decision to hold a Public Hearing to investigate on the island wide power failure occurred on 09th February 2025.

The determination of the Public Hearing will include, but not limited to, findings on Socio Economic Impacts and appropriate recommendations to avoid the recurrence of similar incidents in the future.

The stakeholders and General Public are hereby invited to surrender written submissions, if any, on the impacts, issues, or any information related to the power failure. The Commission may take these submissions into consideration and, if necessary, summon the respective parties to provide oral evidence at the hearing.

This Public Hearing is held under and by virtue of powers vested with the Commission under Section 18 of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka Act No 35 of 2002 and the Date, Time and Venue will be informed to the Public in due course.

Written submissions should be submitted on or before 19th June 2025 to:

Take Care - Let's Ensure the Road Safety" programme in School Level


Cabinet Decision has been taken to implement Take Care - Let's Ensure the Road Safety" programme in School Level.


Implementation of the project "Take Care - Surakimu Magathota" (Take Care - Let's Ensure the Road Safety)

It has been planned to implement a project at school level to create awareness under the theme "Take Care - Surakimu Magathota" (Take Care - Let's Ensure the Road Safety) aiming at the school students to make the road a secure place for everyone preventing traffic accidents which are on the hike. 

The Independent Television Network Limited has planned to implement the said project with the coordination of the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education, Sri Lanka Police and the Department of Motor Traffic. 

It is expected to implement this proposed project in 100 education zones joining the school traffic monitoring groups and school prefects. It has been planned to join 50,000 students directly to this programmes to be 500 students from each zone. Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers granted approval to the resolution furnished by the Minister of Health and Mass Media to implement this proposed project by the Independent Television Network Limited with the assistance of relevant institutions under the supervision of the Ministry of Health and Mass Media.

For Hindi Language Teachers - Three Weeks Training Programme in India


The High Commission of India in Colombo, in collaboration with the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Colombo, is pleased to announce a three-week training programme for Hindi language teachers employed in government schools.

This programme will focus on pedagogy, modern teaching methodologies, and the use of educational resources, and will be held at the Central Institute of Hindi, Agra, India.

Closing Date 27.05.2025
 
Duration: Three weeks (tentatively scheduled for May-June 2025)

Venue: Central Institute of Hindi, Agra, India

Organizers: High Commission of India and Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Colombo

Financial Arrangements:
  • Covered by the Government of India: Accommodation, meals, tuition, and local transportation in India
  • To be borne by participants: Airfare to and from India
