G.C.E. (O/L) Examination 2026

National Identity Card (NIC) Number Mandatory for All Applicants

📢 Important Notice

The Department of Examinations, Sri Lanka has informed that it is mandatory to include the National Identity Card (NIC) Number when applying for all examinations conducted by the Department.

Therefore, students who intend to apply for the G.C.E. (Ordinary Level) Examination 2026, scheduled to be held in December 2026, should obtain their National Identity Cards before submitting applications.

✅ Main Instructions

NIC Number is compulsory for exam applications.
Applicable for G.C.E. O/L Examination 2026.
O/L 2026 is scheduled for December 2026.
Applicants must obtain NIC before applying.

GCE O/L 2025 (2026) Results Release Update – Results Expected by Mid June 2026

GCE O/L 2025 Exam Results Expected by in Mid June -Exam Department-

The Department of Examinations has announced an important update regarding the release of the GCE Ordinary Level 2025 (2026) Examination results. Commissioner General of Examinations Indika Liyanage stated that the evaluation of answer scripts has already been completed and the remaining official processes are currently underway. According to the latest information, the GCE O/L 2025 results may be released by the middle of June 2026.

GCE Ordinary Level 2025 (2026) Results Release Update

The Commissioner General of Examinations, Indika Liyanage, has stated that the results of the GCE Ordinary Level 2025 (2026) Examination are expected to be released by the middle of June 2026.

She further stated that the evaluation of answer scripts has already been completed and the remaining official processes are currently underway before the release of the examination results.

Sri Lanka Schools 4-Day Week Letter 2026 – Wednesday Holiday Due to Fuel Crisis

Sri Lanka schools Wednesday holiday circular 2026 fuel crisis education ministry notice

The Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education has issued an important letter introducing a temporary four-day school week due to the ongoing global fuel crisis. According to this directive, all schools will remain closed on Wednesdays until further notice, while alternative home-based learning activities must be arranged for students. This measure aims to reduce fuel consumption while ensuring continuity in education across Sri Lanka.

Main Purpose

To continue school administration and teaching-learning activities while responding to the global fuel crisis and reducing energy use.

School Schedule

All schools will operate only four days per week. Until further notice, every Wednesday will be a school holiday.

Home Learning

Principals must arrange suitable teaching-learning activities so students can continue self-study at home every Wednesday.

Time Management

School hours must not be used for programs, festivals or other activities organized by the school or outside institutions.

School Events

For upcoming school functions and celebrations, high fuel-consuming activities such as vehicle parades should be temporarily suspended.

Educational Tours

Planned educational trips with student participation, and future tours, must be suspended until further notice.

Who Must Follow This

Provincial Chief Secretaries, Education Secretaries, Provincial and Zonal Directors, Deputy/Assistant Directors, Heads of Pirivenas, and Principals of Government and Government-approved Private Schools.

Future Updates

Once the current situation improves, further instructions will be issued regarding the continuous operation of schools.

Advanced Level Vocational Stream under the 13 Years Guaranteed Education Programme

📘 Programme Overview

Applications are called for admission to Grade 12 under the Advanced Level Vocational Stream for the academic year 2026/2027. Students may apply to schools that offer the Vocational Stream. The student's pass or fail status at the G.C.E. O/L examination is not considered for admission to this stream.

✅ After completing Grade 12, students can continue an NVQ Level 4 course in Grade 13.
