Applications are invited for the Open and Limited Competitive Examinations for recruitment to the post of Telecommunication and Radar Technical Officer in the Sri Lanka Technological Service of the Department of Meteorology.
The Open Competitive Examination is available to qualified external applicants, while the Limited Competitive Examination is only for eligible internal officers of the Department of Meteorology.

Open Competitive Examination
Recruitment to Grade III of the Sri Lanka Technological Service
Basic Eligibility
- Must be a citizen of Sri Lanka.
- Must be of excellent moral character.
- Must possess adequate physical and mental fitness to serve in any part of Sri Lanka.
- Must be between 18 and 30 years as at 13 August 2026.
- Applicants must have been born on or before 13 August 2008 and on or after 13 August 1996.
Educational Qualifications
G.C.E. Ordinary Level
Must have passed six subjects at one and the same sitting, with credit passes in:
G.C.E. Advanced Level or Technical Qualification
Applicants must have passed three subjects at one and the same sitting under an accepted science subject combination, such as:
- Physics, Pure Mathematics and Applied Mathematics; or
- Physics with one subject from Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics or Combined Mathematics, together with one subject from Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Information Technology or Computer Science.
Alternatively, applicants may possess one of the following relevant technical qualifications:
- Relevant National Vocational Qualification – NVQ Level 6;
- National Diploma in Technology – NDT awarded by the University of Moratuwa or Hardy Advanced Technological Institute, Ampara;
- National Diploma in Engineering Sciences – NDES awarded by NAITA;
- Higher National Diploma in Engineering – HNDE;
- Diploma in Technology awarded by the Open University of Sri Lanka;
- Successful completion of Part I of the Engineering Examination conducted by the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka; or
- Another technical qualification recognized as equivalent by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission.

Intelligence Test
Duration: 1 Hour

Physics and electronics-related knowledge, including mechanics, units and dimensions, properties of matter, vibrations and waves, heat and electricity, electrical principles, semiconductors, digital technology, communication methods and data transmission.
Limited Competitive Examination
Recruitment to Grade III / Training Grade of the Sri Lanka Technological Service
This examination is limited to qualified internal applicants currently serving in the Department of Meteorology.
Training Grade – One-Year Training
Educational Qualifications
Must have passed six subjects at the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination in not more than two sittings, with credit passes in:
Applicants must also possess one of the following:
- National Certificate in Technology – NCT in a field relevant to the post from a recognized technical college;
- Certificate obtained after completing a one-year full-time draftsmanship course at a recognized technical college;
- National Certificate for Industrial Technicians in a field relevant to the post; or
- Another technical qualification recognized by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission as equivalent.
Required Experience
A minimum of five years of active and satisfactory service in a permanent departmental post in the relevant field within the Primary Non-Skilled category or a higher service category.
Grade III – Direct Recruitment
Educational Qualifications
Must have passed six subjects at the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination in not more than two sittings, with credit passes in:
Applicants must also possess one of the following:
- Relevant National Vocational Qualification – NVQ Level 6;
- National Diploma in Technology – NDT awarded by the University of Moratuwa or Hardy Advanced Technological Institute, Ampara;
- National Diploma in Engineering Sciences – NDES awarded by NAITA;
- Higher National Diploma in Engineering – HNDE;
- Diploma in Technology awarded by the Open University;
- Successful completion of Part I of the Engineering Examination conducted by the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka; or

The mathematics paper covers Ordinary Level concepts in algebra, geometry and trigonometry. The technical paper covers electrical principles, semiconductors, digital technology, communication methods and data transmission.

- කාලගුණ විද්යා දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවේ සුදුසුකම් සපුරා ඇති අභ්යන්තර නිලධාරීන්ට පමණක් අයදුම් කළ හැකිය.
- සාමාන්ය පෙළ විභාගයෙන් භාෂාව හෝ සාහිත්යය, විද්යාව සහ ගණිතය සඳහා සම්මාන සාමාර්ථ තිබිය යුතුය.
- පුහුණු ශ්රේණිය සඳහා NCT, කාර්මික සහතිකයක් හෝ ඒ හා සමාන පිළිගත් තාක්ෂණික සුදුසුකමක් තිබිය යුතුය.
- III ශ්රේණිය සඳහා අදාළ NVQ 6, NDT, NDES, HNDE හෝ පිළිගත් තාක්ෂණ ඩිප්ලෝමාවක් තිබිය යුතුය.

- பௌதிகவியல் உள்ளடங்கிய அங்கீகரிக்கப்பட்ட உயர்தர விஞ்ஞானப் பாடச் சேர்க்கை அல்லது சம்பந்தப்பட்ட NVQ 6, NDT, NDES, HNDE அல்லது அங்கீகரிக்கப்பட்ட தொழில்நுட்ப டிப்ளோமா தகுதியைக் கொண்டிருக்க வேண்டும்.

- வளிமண்டலவியல் திணைக்களத்தில் சேவையாற்றும் தகுதியுடைய உள்ளக உத்தியோகத்தர்கள் மாத்திரம் விண்ணப்பிக்கலாம்.
- சாதாரண தரப் பரீட்சையில் மொழி அல்லது இலக்கியம், விஞ்ஞானம் மற்றும் கணிதத்தில் திறமைச் சித்தி பெற்றிருக்க வேண்டும்.
- பயிற்சித் தரத்திற்கு NCT அல்லது அங்கீகரிக்கப்பட்ட சம்பந்தப்பட்ட தொழில்நுட்பச் சான்றிதழைக் கொண்டிருக்க வேண்டும்.
- தரம் IIIக்கு சம்பந்தப்பட்ட NVQ 6, NDT, NDES, HNDE அல்லது அங்கீகரிக்கப்பட்ட தொழில்நுட்ப டிப்ளோமாவைக் கொண்டிருக்க வேண்டும்.
- சம்பந்தப்பட்ட துறையில் நிரந்தர திணைக்களப் பதவியில் குறைந்தது 05 வருட செயற்பாட்டுடனான திருப்திகரமான சேவையைப் பூர்த்தி செய்திருக்க வேண்டும்.
- வரையறுக்கப்பட்ட பரீட்சைக்கு வயதெல்லை பொருந்தாது.
