Vacancy Overview

The Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL) invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the post of Graduate Translator Grade II (Sinhala/English). Applications must be submitted on the prescribed form and sent by registered post with the required supporting documents.

Qualifications

  • A degree from a recognized university with Sinhala or Tamil as a subject; and
  • A credit pass in English Language or English Literature at the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination, or having passed the G.C.E. Advanced Level or a higher examination in the English medium.
Preference: Preference will be given to graduates who offered English as a degree subject and/or candidates proficient in all three languages.

Salary and Benefits

Salary scale: U MN 3(II) – Rs. 71,365 – 18 × Rs. 1,190 – Rs. 92,785 per month.

The advertisement states that this scale becomes fully operative from 01.01.2027. Salary placement for 2026 will be made according to University Grants Commission Circular No. 02/2025 (i) dated 04.04.2025. Any other allowances applicable to the post may also be paid.

Permanent appointees contribute to the Universities Provident Fund. The advertisement also refers to contributions relating to the Employees’ Trust Fund and University Pension Scheme, subject to the applicable conditions.

05. Translator

  • Distinction passes in Tamil and English at G.C.E. O/L;
  • A UGC-recognized degree; and
  • One year of English–Tamil translation experience.

Applicants must have strong spoken and written English, Sinhala and Tamil proficiency.

Age: 22–45 years

Salary: Rs. 64,320 – 113,170

General Requirements

  • Applicants must be Sri Lankan citizens, physically and mentally fit, and of excellent moral character.
  • Government and statutory-sector employees must apply through their respective heads of institutions.
  • The upper age limit does not apply to internal applicants and specified public-sector applicants.
  • The stated salary will be adjusted and paid according to the 2026 salary scale under Circular 1/2025.
