What has changed?

The Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education has issued Circular Amendment No. 29/2024 (II) concerning the Suraksha Student Insurance Scheme. It amends specified provisions of Circular No. 29/2024 dated 2 August 2024 and Amendment No. 29/2024 (I) dated 16 October 2025. Other terms and conditions remain unchanged.

  • Health benefits: Amendments address scoliosis braces prescribed by specified practitioners, repair and servicing of hearing accessories (battery replacements excluded), Crohn disease/inflammatory bowel disease, chronic kidney disease, chronic inflammatory arthritis, specified screening tests, cancer treatment and related testing, accident related major hip/shoulder/knee surgery under general anaesthesia, and PET scans.
  • Accident benefits: Reimbursement of expenses has a maximum annual benefit limit of Rs. 200,000.
  • Student death benefit: A benefit of Rs. 100,000 applies in the circumstances specified in new section 2.2.1.4, including accidents and deaths during supervised activities or events organized by institutions under the relevant ministries, whether within or outside school premises.

සුරක්ෂා සිසු රක්ෂණ ක්‍රමයට අදාළ 29/2024 (II) චක්‍රලේඛ සංශෝධනය 2026 සැප්තැම්බර් 1 දින සිට ක්‍රියාත්මක වේ. සෞඛ්‍ය ප්‍රතිලාභ කිහිපයක් සංශෝධනය කර ඇති අතර අනතුරු සඳහා වියදම් ප්‍රතිපූරණයේ වාර්ෂික උපරිමය රු. 200,000 කි. නව 2.2.1.4 වගන්තියේ සඳහන් අවස්ථාවල සිසු මරණයක් සඳහා රු. 100,000 ක ප්‍රතිලාභයක් ද සඳහන් වේ. සම්පූර්ණ කොන්දේසි සඳහා නිල චක්‍රලේඛය කියවන්න.

  • Each student selected for the national competition will receive a Rs. 10,000 attendance and travel allowance.

The National Housing Development Authority has invited schoolchildren across Sri Lanka to participate in an all-island drawing and essay competition organized to mark World Habitat Day – 05 October 2026.

Competition Theme: “My Beautiful Small House”

Drawings and essays should present the student’s idea of a beautiful and affordable small house that suits a family’s income and supports a happy, peaceful and independent life.

Who Can Participate?

  • Students studying in government or private schools in Sri Lanka.
  • Children of officers serving in the National Housing Development Authority are not eligible.

The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority invites innovative teams to present AI-powered solutions capable of transforming Sri Lanka’s tourism sector. The competition supports innovation, sustainability, improved visitor experiences and the digital transformation of tourism.

Important: Artificial Intelligence must be a core component of the proposed solution. Applications without an AI component will not be considered.

🇬🇧 Short Film Competition 2026 – Full Details

The National Child Protection Authority has organized a short film competition in conjunction with the International Day of the Girl Child, which falls on 11 October 2026.

Talented filmmakers are invited to produce and submit short films based on child protection and social issues. Regular short films and AI-generated short films may be submitted according to the relevant competition category.

🏆 Competition Categories

1. School Section
Students in Grades 9–11 and Grades 12–13 may participate.
AI-generated short films are not allowed in this section.
2. Higher Education Section
University students and students following higher education programmes may participate.
Both regular and AI-generated short films are accepted.
3. Open Section
Professionals and other persons aged 25 years or above may participate.
Both regular and AI-generated short films are accepted.

The Department of Government Information has invited entries for the Asidisi Vidumaga School Creative Competition – 2026. The annual competition is organised to enhance media literacy and encourage media-related creativity among school students.

Ten competition areas have been introduced for 2026, providing opportunities for students to demonstrate their talents in writing, photography, broadcasting, filmmaking and school media activities. A separate Research Paper Competition is also available exclusively for school teachers.

🎯 Students of Government, Semi-Government, Private and International Schools are eligible for the competitions designated for school students.

✅ Student entries must be the student's own original work.

✅ The applicant must be a current student of the relevant school when the application is certified.

✅ The prescribed application form must accompany each entry.

✅ Student application forms must be certified and recommended by the school Principal with signature and official seal.

✅ A student may participate in more than one competition, but a separate application form must be submitted for each competition.

✅ Unless a specific competition states otherwise, a contestant may submit a maximum of two entries for one competition.

⛔ Entries that do not comply with the official requirements may be rejected without prior notice. Participants are strongly advised to read the full guidelines before submitting an entry.
