Official Report Overview

The Department of Examinations has published the performance analysis of candidates who sat the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination 2025. The report includes national results, A/L qualification rates, nine-A results, province and district rankings, education-zone performance, school-level distribution and subject pass rates.
Important: The analysis is based on examination data collected before the re-scrutiny process. Results that were withheld were not considered in the analysis.

2025 අ.පො.ස. සාමාන්‍ය පෙළ විභාගයට අපේක්ෂකයින් 404,655 දෙනෙකු පෙනී සිට ඇත. විෂයයන් පහක් හෝ වැඩි ගණනකට පෙනී සිටි අපේක්ෂකයින් අතරින් 235,149 දෙනෙකු උසස් පෙළ සඳහා සුදුසුකම් ලබා ඇති අතර එය 71.13%කි.

පළමු වරට පෙනී සිටි පාසල් අපේක්ෂකයින් අතරින් 225,748 දෙනෙකු හෙවත් 73.16%ක් උසස් පෙළ සඳහා සුදුසුකම් ලබා ඇත.

Candidates who appeared for the examination are advised to remain patient and regularly check official announcements regarding the publication of the results.

About the Admission Programme

Applications are invited for admission to Grade 12 under the Advanced Level Vocational Stream for the academic year 2026/2027.

Students may apply to a school that implements the A/L Vocational Stream. After completing the Grade 12 school-based programme, students will have the opportunity to follow an NVQ Level 4 vocational training course during Grade 13.

Important eligibility information:
A pass or failure at the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination is not considered when admitting students to this stream.
Application deadline: The completed application must be sent to the principal of the school where the student wishes to obtain admission on or before 8 July 2026.

Identify a school that offers the A/L Vocational Stream and the vocational subject area preferred by the student.

Download and complete either the official Sinhala or Tamil application form.

Prepare the required information

Complete the application carefully according to the official instructions and application format.

Submit it to the selected school

Send the completed application directly to the principal of the school where admission is requested before the closing date.

Official guidelines have been released for admitting children to Grade One in government schools for the year 2027.

About the Circular

The Ministry of Education has issued Circular No. 25/2026 containing the official procedures, eligibility requirements, selection categories, interview arrangements, appeals procedure and application forms for Grade One admissions in 2027.

Age and Basic Eligibility

  • The child should have completed five years of age on or before 31 January 2027.
  • The child's age should be confirmed using an acceptable birth certificate or another officially accepted document.
  • Children who are six years of age or older may be considered only after eligible children below six years have been admitted and subject to the availability of vacancies.
  • Parents or legal guardians must use the application form included in the official circular.

Number of Students Admitted

For each parallel Grade One class, 35 children are expected to be selected through the normal admission process.

An additional allocation of up to five places is available under the relevant special category for eligible children connected to the Armed Forces and Police. Therefore, the total number may reach 40 students per parallel class.

Admission Categories

Vacancies are allocated among the following principal admission categories:

50%

Residents Close to the School

Children whose parents or legal guardians reside within the recognised proximity area of the school.

25%

Children of Past Pupils

Children whose mother, father or legal guardian is a former student of the relevant school.

14%

Brothers and Sisters

Children who already have a brother or sister studying at the relevant school.

6%

Education-Sector Employees

Eligible children of employees serving in schools and recognised institutions directly connected with general education.

4%

Transferred Public Officers

Eligible children of government and other recognised public officers transferred due to service requirements.

1%

Returning from Overseas

Eligible children accompanying parents or guardians returning to Sri Lanka after residing abroad.

Important Application Instructions

  • Complete the prescribed application form included in the circular.
  • Submit the application to the principal of the relevant school before the closing date.
  • Attach copies of the documents required to prove the selected admission category.
  • Clearly mention the admission category under which the application is submitted.
  • When an applicant is eligible under more than one category, separate applications should be submitted according to the instructions in the circular.
  • Where a school provides both Sinhala and Tamil media, an application should be submitted under only one medium. The medium cannot normally be changed after admission.
  • Original documents should be produced when requested for the interview or verification process.

Grade One Admission Timetable

30 June 2026 Official admission notices to be displayed.
30 July 2026 Closing date for accepting applications.
Before 30 September Admission interviews to be completed.
15 October 2026 Provisional admission list to be displayed at the school.
31 October 2026 Closing date for submitting appeals and objections.
16 Nov – 13 Dec Appeals and objections to be examined.
20 December 2026 Final Grade One admission list to be published.
First School Day 2027 Grade One classes will commence on the first day of the first school term.

Document Verification

Details provided in applications may be checked through document verification, interviews, official records and residence verification where necessary.

Important: Providing false information, altered documents or misleading declarations may result in rejection of the application or cancellation of an admission already granted.
