Programme Overview

Applications are invited for the Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Leadership and Management (PGDELM) offered by the Department of Educational Leadership and Management, Faculty of Education, The Open University of Sri Lanka.

This programme is designed to develop professional knowledge, competencies and practices related to educational leadership and management among graduate teachers, principals and officers engaged in educational administration and management.

The programme includes theories, concepts, modern developments and professional practices in educational leadership and management. Learning activities are conducted through a combination of self-directed learning, limited interactive contact sessions, tutorials and online learning resources.

Admission Requirements

An applicant should possess:

A Bachelor’s degree of at least three years' duration, with a minimum of 90 credits at SLQF Level 5, obtained from a recognized university; and
Be a teacher or principal of a recognized school, an in-service teacher adviser, teacher educator, SLEAS officer, SLPS officer, or a full-time academic staff member of a university, National College of Education, Technical College or Teachers’ College; or
Be a manager of a Government Teacher Centre, lecturer at the National Institute of Education, head of a recognized educational institution, or another professional in educational administration and management acceptable to the Senate of OUSL; or
Possess an equivalent or higher qualification acceptable to the Senate of The Open University of Sri Lanka.

Important: Applicants with a foreign, online or other degree not obtained from a recognized Sri Lankan university may be required to submit confirmation that the qualification is recognized by the University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka.

The Open University of Sri Lanka has announced a beginner-friendly Short Course in Using Generative AI for Educational Efficiency for teachers, educators, learners and other interested participants.

The increasing integration of technology into education has created new opportunities to improve teaching, learning and everyday educational activities. Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) can be used as a practical, creative and time-saving tool by both educators and learners.

This course is designed to provide participants with a practical introduction to Generative AI and help them develop the skills required to use AI tools effectively in educational settings.

Participants will learn how GenAI can be used to improve productivity, support lesson planning, simplify content creation, organize educational resources and personalize learning experiences.

The programme is designed to strengthen research knowledge and practical research skills among graduate teachers, principals, educational administrators, teacher educators and other personnel working in the field of education.
