Mechatronics Technology

Applicants must have successfully completed a full-time CGTTI course in Mechatronics Trade with NVQ Level 4.

Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Technology

Applicants must have successfully completed a full-time CGTTI course in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Trade with NVQ Level 4.

Computer Numerical Controlled Manufacturing Technology

Applicants must have successfully completed a full-time CGTTI course in Machinist (General) with NVQ Level 4.

Electrical Technology

Applicants must have successfully completed a full-time CGTTI course in Power Electrician Trade with NVQ Level 4.

Industrial Millwright Technology

Applicants must have successfully completed a full-time CGTTI course in Millwright Technician Trade with NVQ Level 4.

Welding Technology

Applicants must have successfully completed a full-time CGTTI course in Welder Trade with NVQ Level 4.

National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA)

Japan Tech Apprentice Intake 2027

The Automobile Engineering Training Institute (AETI), operating under the National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority, invites applications from Sri Lankan youth for its 2027 full-time apprentice courses. Applicants must generally be between 16 and 25 years of age as at 1 January 2027.

Male and female applicants may apply. Scholarships are available for selected students from low-income families and Aswesuma beneficiary families.

Courses, Duration and Course Fees

1. Automobile Technician

Duration: 3 years

Fee: Rs. 200,000

2. Automobile Electrician

Duration: 3 years

Fee: Rs. 200,000

3. Machinist / CNC

Duration: 3 years

Fee: Rs. 170,000

4. Automobile A/C Technician

Duration: 2 years

Fee: Rs. 70,000

5. Automobile Tinker

Duration: 1½ years

Fee: Rs. 30,000

6. Automobile Painter

Duration: 1½ years

Fee: Rs. 30,000

7. ICT Technician

Duration: 1 year

Fee: Rs. 40,000

After the full-time daytime intake, a limited number of apprentices will be recruited for full-time evening courses at an additional course fee of 50%.

Educational Qualifications

  • Courses 1–4: Passed the G.C.E. O/L examination in not more than two sittings with six subjects, including Sinhala, Mathematics and Science.
  • Courses 5–6: Passed Grade 8 in a government school or government-recognized school.
  • Course 7 – ICT Technician: Passed the G.C.E. O/L examination in not more than two sittings with six subjects, including Sinhala, Mathematics and English.
  • Age: 16–25 years as at 1 January 2027.
  • Gender: Male and female applicants are eligible.

Applicants with hearing and speech impairments may apply only for courses 1.2, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6 and 1.7.

Application Process

Pay the application fee of Rs. 1,000 at the People’s Bank, Dematagoda Branch, to the Automobile Engineering Training Institute account 071100103320674.
Obtain the bank pay-in slip and write the depositor’s name and NIC number on the slip. Online payments and CDM payments are not accepted.
Attach the original pay-in slip in the space provided on the back of the application.
Use the application form published with the Sinhala Gazette notice dated 28 August 2026 and complete it carefully.
Send the completed application by registered post to: Director / Principal, Automobile Engineering Training Institute, No. 69/A, Baseline Road, Orugodawatta.
Write “Recruitment of Apprentices – 2027” on the top-left corner of the envelope.

Limited Recruitment – Qualifications

General Requirements

  • Should be a citizen of Sri Lanka.
  • Should have good character and good health.
  • Should satisfy the required educational, professional and experience qualifications before the closing date.

Degree Qualification Path

  • A degree with the relevant subject field as a main subject from a recognized university.
  • After obtaining the qualification, required active and satisfactory service experience in the relevant DTET posts.
  • Experience requirement may include 05 years in MT-1/MT-2 posts or 03 years as Evaluation Officer in MN-6, according to the official notice.

NVQ Level 6 Path

  • NVQ Level 6 Diploma Certificate in the relevant field from a recognized institution.
  • After obtaining the qualification, 07 years active and satisfactory experience in relevant DTET posts such as Craft Demonstrator, Farm Manager or Laboratory Assistant.

NVQ Level 5 / Equivalent Path

  • NVQ Level 5 or equivalent Diploma Certificate in the relevant field.
  • Relevant experience such as 10 years in MN-1 posts, or 09 years in MT-1/MT-2 posts, or holding the relevant senior Craft Demonstrator post as mentioned in the notice.

Open Recruitment – Qualifications

General Requirements

  • Should be a citizen of Sri Lanka.
  • Should have excellent character and good health.
  • Age should be not less than 21 years and not more than 40 years on the closing date.
  • Should be physically and mentally fit to serve anywhere in Sri Lanka.
  • Should not be an ordained member of any religious order.

Educational Qualification

  • A degree from a university recognized by the University Grants Commission, with the relevant subject field as a main subject.
  • Or SLQF Level 5 qualification equivalent to NVQ Level 7 in the relevant field from a recognized institution.

Experience Requirement

  • After obtaining the qualification, 03 years teaching experience in the relevant subject field in a recognized education or training institution.
  • Or 03 years professional experience in the relevant field in a recognized government, local authority, company, BOI registered or industrial institution.
  • Or a combination of both types of experience totaling 03 years.

Service Condition

  • Selected applicants should be ready to serve in any Technical College or College of Technology under the Department of Technical Education and Training.
  • The post is permanent and pensionable according to government rules.

Examination Subjects and Selection Method

Aptitude

Maximum Marks: 100

Pass Mark: 40%

Questions are based on numerical ability, logical reasoning, intelligence and general ability required for the post.

General Knowledge

Maximum Marks: 100

Pass Mark: 40%

Questions are based on Sri Lanka, current affairs, social, cultural, economic, scientific and technical knowledge.

Professional Test

Maximum Marks: 100

Duration: Up to 06 hours

Applicable for Technical Drawing, Motor Mechanics, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, Electrical, Metal Work and Building Construction.

Agriculture and Information Technology applicants are selected through the written examination only, according to the recruitment method in the notice.
