Driver – Water Barges

Service Category:

Basic Qualification:
G.C.E. O/L in six subjects, including Language and Mathematics, obtained in not more than two sittings.

A certificate for operating machinery of not less than 250 horsepower issued by the Director General of Merchant Shipping is required.

Experience:
Three years of experience as a Water Barge Driver in a relevant institution.

Digger Driver

Service Category:
Semi-Skilled – 10.3 (SS3)

Basic Qualification:
G.C.E. O/L in six subjects, including Language and Mathematics, obtained in not more than two sittings.

A Crane Operating Certificate issued by the government, a recognised institution or an NVQ Level 3 certificate is required.

Experience:
Three years of experience as a Digger Driver or in a similar post.

Educational Qualifications

Should have passed the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination in six subjects, including Language and Mathematics, in not more than two sittings.

Should possess a certificate for not less than 1,000 Horse Power or 750 KW issued by the Director General of Merchant Shipping of Sri Lanka under the 1907 Launch Ordinance.

Should possess a National Certificate of Technology in the Mechanical or Shipping sector.

Alternatively, applicants may possess a relevant three-year full-time certificate issued by a government, industrial or vocational training institution recognized by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission.

A relevant NVQ Level 4 certificate or an equivalent accepted qualification may also be considered.

Required Experience

Applicants should possess three years of experience as an Assistant Head Driver (Dredger).

The experience should have been obtained in a government institution or a recognized private institution in a similar position.

Additional Knowledge and Skills

Good knowledge of equipment used in tugs or dredgers and their repairs.

Knowledge of standard nautical knots, mooring procedures and boating skills.

Applicants must successfully complete the required training courses within one year after recruitment.

A valid licence issued for driving heavy vehicles.

Main Responsibilities

Safe operation and maintenance of institutional vehicles, transportation of passengers and documents, and maintenance of vehicle records, licences, insurance and roadworthiness.

National Salt Limited, a government owned company under the Ministry of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development, invites applications for vacancies at Colombo Head Office, Mannar Saltern and Elephant Pass Saltern.

Closing Date: 14.05.2026 Selection: Structured Interview

Plant Manager

Basis: Contract Basis – Initially for One Year

Vacancies: 01 Position at Elephant Pass Saltern

Qualifications

Degree in Physical Science / Engineering Mechanical or relevant degree recognized by UGC with one year post-qualifying experience.
OR NVQ Level 7 certificate in Mechanical / Automobile related field with one year post-qualifying experience.
Experience may be in Public Service, Corporation, Statutory Board, Institution or reputed Private Institution.

Salary: Rs. 81,710 + COL Rs. 17,800 + Professional Allowance Rs. 25,000 + Telephone Allowance Rs. 2,000 + approved allowances.

Age: 22 – 45 years

Plant Operator

Vacancies: 01 at Elephant Pass + 01 at Mannar Saltern

Qualifications

NVQ Level 5 proficiency certificate in Mechanical / Automobile / Machinery Operation or related field.
Certificate must be issued by an accepted Technical / Vocational Training Institute.

Salary: Rs. 46,960 + COL Rs. 17,800 + approved allowances.

Age: 18 – 45 years

Senior Mechanic

Vacancy: 01 Position at Elephant Pass Saltern

Qualifications

NVQ Level 5 proficiency certificate in Mechanical / Automobile or related field.
Certificate from accepted Technical / Vocational Training Institute.

Salary: Rs. 46,960 + COL Rs. 17,800 + approved allowances.

Sales Officer

Vacancy: 01 Position at Mannar Saltern

Qualifications

Diploma qualification in Business Administration, Marketing or related field, not below NVQ Level 5.
OR G.C.E. A/L in Commerce Stream with certificate level Marketing / Sales qualification and 03 years relevant experience.

Salary: Rs. 46,960 + COL Rs. 17,800 + approved allowances.

Age: 18 – 45 years

Assistant Plant Operator

Qualifications

Qualifications

NVQ Level 4 proficiency certificate in Welding or related field.
Certificate from accepted Technical / Vocational Training Institute.

Salary: Rs. 40,834 + COL Rs. 17,800 + approved allowances.

Age: 18 – 45 years

Driver

Vacancies: 01 Head Office + 02 Mannar Saltern + 01 Elephant Pass Saltern

Qualifications

Passed 06 subjects in G.C.E. O/L with at least 02 credit passes in maximum two sittings.
Heavy vehicle license issued by Commissioner General of Motor Traffic.
Minimum 03 years driving experience after obtaining license.

Salary: Rs. 40,834 + COL Rs. 17,800 + approved allowances.

Age: 18 – 45 years

All contract positions may be extended based on performance and company requirements.
Applicant should be a citizen of Sri Lanka.
Should be physically and mentally fit to serve in any part of Sri Lanka.
Should be of excellent moral character.
