Who Can Apply?

• Eligible permanent officers of the Sri Lanka Education Administrative Service in the relevant Grade II/III service categories specified in the official notice.
• Applicants must not have been officially declared unsuitable for appointment as a National School Principal by the Public Service Commission or its Education Service Committee.
• Applicants should generally be below 58 years of age on the closing date. The official notice includes an exception for certain officers already serving in National School Principal posts.
• Applicants must satisfy the school-type, subject-stream, service and other eligibility requirements stated in the notice and marking scheme.

Important Conditions

• An applicant may select a maximum of three schools in order of preference.
• A selected officer is generally expected to serve in the appointed post for at least three years, except where retirement falls within that period.
• Appointments will be made according to available vacancies, eligibility, preferences and the approved selection procedure.
• Applicants should carefully check the separate School List and Marking Scheme before completing the application.

How to Apply

1. Download and complete the prescribed application form on A4 paper.
2. Obtain the required certification or recommendation from the Head of the Institution or relevant authority.
3. Prepare the supporting documents and the self-addressed stamped envelope requested in the official notice.
4. Write the post description stated in the notice on the top-left corner of the envelope.
5. Send the application by registered post to reach the Ministry on or before 24 July 2026.

Selection Method

Eligible applicants will be considered through an interview and the approved marking scheme. The criteria include relevant service and experience, performance, educational and professional qualifications, and other factors stated in the official documents.
