📢 Applications are called for the Catholic Dharmacharya Certificate Examination relating to the years 2024 and 2025. Arrangements have been made to conduct the examination in November 2026.

🎓 Required Qualifications

An applicant should have obtained at least one of the following qualifications:

✅ Passed the Catholic Daham Pasal Final Certificate Examination conducted by the Department of Examinations, Sri Lanka.

✅ Passed the Dharmacharya Examination, Dharmacharya Special Examination or Honours in Dharmacharya Examination conducted by the National Catechetic Center.

✅ Passed the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination in three subjects, including either Christianity or Christian Civilization.

✅ Passed six subjects at the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination, including a Credit Pass in Catholicism in not more than two sittings, or obtained the equivalent specified qualification, together with at least one year of teaching experience in a Catechism School registered under the Department of Christian Religious Affairs.

📌 The relevant qualification should be certified by the Head Teacher of a Catechism School approved by the Department of Christian Religious Affairs or by the Parish Priest of the respective mission.

📝 How to Apply

Applications should be submitted through the Head of a registered Catechism School.

Application forms have been sent to Catechism Schools and can also be downloaded using the official Sinhala, Tamil and English PDF links provided below.

⚠️ Applicants are not permitted to apply privately as external candidates. However, a person who possesses the required qualifications may apply through the Catechism School nearest to his or her residence, subject to the prescribed conditions.

Candidates should pass all five subjects to complete the examination.

Where a candidate fails only one of the five subjects, the result will be treated as an under-pass. That subject should be completed within the next three consecutive examinations from the initial sitting.

📍 Examination Centres

Examination centres are expected to be established according to the number of applicants. A centre may be cancelled where there are insufficient candidates, and candidates may then be directed to a nearby centre.

💰 பொதுவான பரீட்சைக் கட்டணம் ரூ. 200. முதல் தடவையாக பரீட்சைக்குத் தோற்றும் விண்ணப்பதாரர்களுக்கு பரீட்சைக் கட்டணம் விலக்களிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

The Department of Motor Traffic has called for applications for two separate written examinations relating to the registration of driving instructors in Sri Lanka.

Applications are available for the Assistant Driving Instructor Examination and the Driving Instructor Examination. Applicants should carefully check the qualifications applicable to the examination for which they intend to apply.

English Summary

Assistant Driving Instructor Examination

Applicants must be citizens of Sri Lanka.
Applicants must be between 23 and 65 years of age as at the closing date.
Applicants should have passed the Grade 8 qualifying examination or an equivalent examination.
At least three years of experience as an employee of a driving school is required.
Documentary evidence containing EPF and ETF details must be submitted to prove the required experience.
Applicants must possess a valid driving licence for the relevant vehicle class, obtained at least five years before the closing date.
A medical certificate confirming fitness to drive and train drivers is required.
The examination may be answered in Sinhala, Tamil or English.

English Summary

Driving Instructor Examination

Applicants must be citizens of Sri Lanka.
Applicants must be between 23 and 65 years of age as at the closing date.
Applicants must possess one of the educational or professional qualifications specified below.
G.C.E. O/L with six subjects, including Mathematics and Sinhala or Tamil, with two credit passes, obtained within not more than two sittings;
Or an NVQ Level 3 qualification in motor vehicle mechanics or another field relevant to the driving profession;
Or five years of experience as an Assistant Driving Instructor before the application date.
A relevant valid driving licence obtained at least five years before the closing date is required.
Applicants may apply for the appropriate Class A, B or C instructor category according to their driving licence classes.
A medical certificate confirming fitness to drive and provide driving instruction is required.

The syllabus includes the Motor Traffic Act, road rules, teaching and instructional methods, safe driving, ethics, first aid, mechanical and technical knowledge and road safety.

📮 How to Apply

Application Form

Prepare the application according to the specimen form published in the Gazette. The form should be prepared on both sides of A4 paper.

Language Medium

The application must be completed in the same language medium in which the applicant intends to sit the examination.

Examination Fee

Pay Rs. 3,000 in cash under Revenue Head 20-03-02-14 at a post office, District Secretariat or Divisional Secretariat.

Payment Receipt

Attach the original receipt securely to the application and retain a photocopy for future reference.

Submission Method

Applications must be sent by registered post to the address given below on or before 21 August 2026.

Signature Certification

The applicant’s signature must be certified by an authorized person specified in the Gazette notice.

🏆 Selection Process

01. Written Examination

Candidates must obtain at least 40 marks for each paper and satisfy the required overall pass mark.

02. Interview

Successful candidates will be called for an interview to verify certificates and qualifications.

03. Practical Test

Selected candidates will undergo a practical assessment relating to driving instruction and driver training.

04. Instructor Course

Candidates selected through the practical test must successfully complete the prescribed instructor training course.

Applications Invited

The Department of Examinations, Sri Lanka has invited applications for the Hindu Daham Pasal Final Certificate Examination 2026, also referred to as the Araneri Schools Final Certificate Examination.

The examination is expected to be conducted in October 2026. Applications will be accepted from 24 July 2026 to 24 August 2026.

Eligibility

Applicants should possess at least one of the following qualifications:

Have passed Grade 10 at an Araneri School conducted or registered under the Department of Hindu Religious and Cultural Affairs and completed the Final Certificate class either fully or partly.
Have passed Hinduism as a subject at the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination.

03 – Hindu Literature
04 – Hinduism: A Way of Life / Practice of Religion

Examination Fee

Applicants appearing for the first time are exempted from the examination fee.
The general examination fee is Rs. 200.
External applicants should pay Rs. 200.
The fee for completing a previously referred subject is Rs. 50.
The applicable fee should be paid through a post office under Revenue Head 20-03-02-13.
The original payment receipt should be attached to the application.
Payment by stamps or money orders is not accepted.

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted through the relevant registered Araneri School.
Private or external applicants cannot apply directly to the Department of Examinations.
Eligible external applicants should apply through the Araneri School nearest to their place of residence.
The application should be completed in duplicate.
The original application should be sent to the Department of Examinations, while the duplicate should be retained by the Head of the Araneri School.
The Head of the Araneri School must sign the application and place the institution’s official stamp.
Applicants requiring special facilities should clearly mention their requirements and attach copies of the relevant medical certificates.
Applications should be sent by registered post early enough to reach the Department before the closing date.

The Department of Examinations has invited applications for the Catholic Daham Pasal (Catechism School) Final Certificate Examination relevant to the year 2025.

Examination centres will be established according to the number of candidates. If there are insufficient candidates for a particular town, candidates may be assigned to a nearby examination centre.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must have fulfilled at least one of the following requirements:

Passed Grade 10 of a Catechism School and studied for at least one year in a Catholic Daham Pasal Final Certificate Examination class.
Passed Catholicism at the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination.
Passed Grade 11 of the Diocesan Annual Catechetical Examination.

Language Medium

The examination will be conducted in Sinhala, Tamil and English.
A candidate may select only one language medium.
The selected language medium cannot be changed after submitting the application.

Application Procedure

Applications must be submitted through the Head of the relevant Catholic Daham Pasal/Catechism School.
Application forms and instructions have been sent to Catechism Schools registered with the Department of Examinations.
A newly registered school must attach a copy of its registration certificate issued by the Department of Christian Religious Affairs.
The Head of School must prepare two copies of the application. The original must be submitted to the Department of Examinations, while the second copy must be retained by the principal.
Both copies must be signed by the principal.
Candidates with special needs must declare this in the application and attach copies of the relevant medical certificates.
Incomplete applications and applications received after the closing date will be rejected.

Candidates must verify their name, National Identity Card number, subjects and other information before signing the application.

Examination Fees

First-time applicants: No examination fee.
Completing one under-pass subject: Rs. 50.
Other eligible applicants: Rs. 200.
Examination fees must be collected by the Head of the Catechism School and paid through a post office.
Stamps and money orders will not be accepted.
Fees paid will not be refunded or transferred to another examination.

Completed applications should be sent by registered post to:

Write the name of the examination and the selected examination town on the top-left corner of the envelope. Applicants are advised not to wait until the closing date to post their applications.

Subjects and Pass Requirements

The examination consists of four papers.
Each paper carries 100 marks.
Candidates must pass all four subjects to obtain the final certificate.
A candidate who fails only one subject will be treated as an under-pass candidate.
The under-pass subject must be completed within the next two consecutive examinations from the first sitting.

The houses will be provided under a proposed housing project in the Kottawa area, constructed with assistance from China.
