The University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced the calling of online applications for university admission for the Academic Year 2025/2026.

This opportunity is for applicants who have become eligible to apply for university admission based on the re-scrutinized results and withheld results of the G.C.E. (Advanced Level) Examination 2025 (2026).

🏆 This special admission opportunity is intended for applicants who have achieved recognition at major national/international level sports competitions.

✅ Who Can Apply?

Applicants should have fulfilled at least one of the following sports-related requirements:

  • 🥇 Winning medals or participating in the Olympic Games.
  • 🏅 Winning at least a Gold, Silver or Bronze Medal at the Commonwealth Games, Asian Games or SAARC Games.
  • 🇱🇰 Being a member of a Sri Lankan national team representing the country at the Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, SAARC Games or a recognised World Cup competition.
  • Sports may include Cricket, Football, Rugby, Volleyball, Netball or another sport accepted by the University Grants Commission.

📚 Foundation Course

Candidates selected under this special admission category are required to complete a suitable foundation course conducted by the Open University of Sri Lanka before starting the university academic programme.

Admission of Teachers to State Universities
First Degree Programmes (2025/2026)

The Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education has called applications from eligible teachers serving in Government and Government Approved Private Schools for admission to State Universities to follow selected First Degree programmes during the 2025/2026 Academic Year.

Eligible applicants may apply for the Bachelor of Arts (with English as a subject) or Bachelor of Science degree programmes, subject to the prescribed qualifications and conditions. :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}

Available Degree Programmes
  • Bachelor of Arts Degree (English as a Subject)
  • Bachelor of Science Degree (Biological Science)
  • Bachelor of Science Degree (Physical Science)
  • Bachelor of Science Degree (Applied Science)
Eligibility Requirements
  • Must be serving in a Government or Government Approved Private School.
  • Must have passed the relevant General Arts Qualifying (External) or First Examination of the relevant External Degree in 2021 or later.
  • Must have completed at least five (05) years of confirmed teaching service by the closing date.
  • Should not be currently registered in a Teachers' Training College, National College of Education, National Institute of Education or a Government University internal degree programme.
  • Must be eligible for full-time paid study leave.
Selection Process
  • Selection is based on examination marks and interview marks conducted by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
  • Applications must be submitted in duplicate.
  • Applications should reach the Director of Education (Human Resource Development Branch), Ministry of Education, Isurupaya, Battaramulla.
