Lecturer (Probationary) – Qualification Routes

Applicants must satisfy one of the following routes in the relevant subject:

A specialized degree with First Class or Second Class (Upper Division) Honours; or
A specialized degree with Second Class (Lower Division) Honours plus at least one year of relevant teaching, research, professional work or postgraduate study; or
A relevant non-honours degree/general degree with at least Second Class Honours, plus a postgraduate degree of at least two academic years with a thesis/dissertation; or
A relevant degree or recognized professional qualification, plus a one-year relevant master’s/equivalent further professional qualification, and five years of applicable professional experience (external applicants) or teaching/library experience in a recognized higher educational institution (internal applicants); or
A relevant degree/equivalent recognized professional qualification plus eight years of professional and/or teaching experience.

Senior Lecturer Grade II – Key Requirements

Candidates must first possess the academic qualifications required for Lecturer (Probationary). They must also have an accepted research-based master’s/doctoral qualification or an approved equivalent professional qualification, as specified in the official advertisement.

In addition, at least six years of experience is required in one or more of the following:

University or higher-education teaching
Professional work in a recognized mercantile establishment
Research relevant to the field of specialization
Postgraduate studies

Educational and Other Qualifications

Educational qualification

Applicants must have passed six subjects at the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination, including Sinhala/Tamil/English and Mathematics, with at least two credit passes, in not more than two sittings.

Age requirement

Applicants must be not less than 18 years and not more than 28 years as at 28 September 2026. According to the Gazette, eligible applicants must have been born on or before 28.09.2008 and on or after 29.09.1997.

General requirements

Must be a citizen of Sri Lanka and of excellent character.
All applicants must be unmarried.
Must be physically and mentally fit to serve in any part of Sri Lanka and perform the duties of the post.
All required qualifications must be fulfilled by the date specified in the Gazette notice.

Physical Requirements

Male height: At least 5 feet 6 inches, without footwear.
Female height: At least 5 feet 2 inches, without footwear.
Male chest: At least 32 inches.
Eyesight: Required standard without spectacles, subject to the official medical/eyesight test.

Important: Candidates must also face a preliminary fitness assessment. Only candidates who obtain 50% or more at this stage will proceed to the written examination.

1,000-metre run
Chin-ups
Push-ups
Sit-ups
Squat thrusts
Kim’s Game / memory test

Salary and Selection Process

Salary scale (RS 1-2025): Rs. 49,550 – 7 × 540 – 27 × 670 – Rs. 71,420, together with other government-approved allowances. The initial salary step is Rs. 49,550.

The post is permanent and the appointment is subject to a three-year probation period.

Written examination

Intelligence Test: 100 marks; minimum pass mark 50; duration 1 hour.
Language Ability: 100 marks; minimum pass mark 50; duration 2 hours.

The examination is available in Sinhala, Tamil and English. The selected medium cannot be changed later. The fitness assessment and written examination will be held in Colombo only.

Passed the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination in six subjects in one sitting.

Professional Qualification

Successfully completed a 2½-year technical course recognized by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission.

Must pass the required 6/6 vision test for both eyes.

English Language Content Development – Resource Persons’ Pool

The English and Foreign Languages Branch of the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education is establishing a pool of resource persons for English language content development.

Applications are invited from eligible candidates. Shortlisted applicants will be required to sit for a selection test as the final stage of the selection process.

Basic Qualifications

Applicants must be between 25 and 55 years of age.
Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s degree in English, English Language Teaching (ELT), or Education (TESL).
SLTES English officers may apply.
English In-Service Advisers may apply.
RESC resource persons may apply.
Government English language teachers may apply.

Additional Qualifications

A Master’s degree in English or TESOL will be considered an added qualification.
Previous experience in ELT content development or working as a resource person will be considered an added qualification.

Salary Scale

The monthly salary scale applicable to this post under Public Administration Circular No. 10/2025 is:

Rs. 82,150 – 10 × 2,400 – 8 × 2,940 – 17 × 3,900 – Rs. 195,970 (SL-1-2025)

Other allowances paid by the Government to public officers may also apply.

Basic Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must be citizens of Sri Lanka.
Applicants must possess an excellent character.
Applicants must be physically and mentally fit to serve in any part of Sri Lanka.
Applicants must be confirmed in a relevant permanent and pensionable post or service in the Public Service or Provincial Public Service.
Applicants must not have received a disciplinary punishment under the provisions specified in Public Service Commission Circular No. 01/2020 by the qualification date.

Educational Qualifications and Service Experience

Applicants must satisfy one of the following routes:

Possess a recognized degree and have completed at least five years of active and satisfactory service in an eligible permanent and pensionable post/service under the applicable MN or SL-1 salary category;
Or have completed at least ten years of active and satisfactory service in an eligible permanent and pensionable post/service under the applicable MN or SL-1 salary category.

The detailed definitions of recognized degrees, eligible salary codes, qualifying posts and service periods must be checked in the official Gazette before applying.

Age Limit

Applicants must not be more than 53 years of age on the qualification date. Accordingly, only persons born on or after 28 August 1973 are eligible to apply.

Number of Attempts

An applicant is not permitted to sit for this Limited Competitive Examination more than three times, subject to the conditions stated in the Gazette.

Paper 2: Social, Economic and Political Background of Sri Lanka and Global Trends

Paper 3: Public Administration Related Study I – Establishments Code, Public Service Commission Procedural Rules and Financial Regulations
Marks: 100 | Pass mark: 50 | Duration: 3 hours

Paper 4: Public Administration Related Study II – Creative, Analytical and Communication Skills
Marks: 100 | Pass mark: 50 | Duration: 3 hours

The examination will be conducted in Sinhala, Tamil and English. Applicants must answer all papers in the language medium selected in the application. The selected medium cannot be changed later.

English – Open Examination Qualifications

The applicant must be a citizen of Sri Lanka.
The applicant must be between 18 and 30 years of age as at 25 September 2026.
Eligible applicants should have been born on or before 25 September 2008 and on or after 25 September 1996.
Applicants must be of excellent character and possess adequate physical and mental fitness to serve in any part of Sri Lanka.
Applicants must have passed the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination in six subjects in one sitting, with credit passes in four subjects, including Language and Mathematics.
Applicants must have passed all subjects at the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination in one sitting, excluding the Common General Test and General English.
The language for which a credit pass was obtained at the O/L Examination should be the language medium selected for this competitive examination.
All required qualifications must have been completed on or before 25 September 2026.

අයදුම්කරු ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ පුරවැසියකු විය යුතුය.

Open Examination Selection

Selection will be based on the written examination, order of merit and the district population ratio, subject to the provisions contained in the official gazette notice. Applicants must carefully select the district under which they are eligible to compete.

Limited Competitive Examination 2026

English – Limited Examination Qualifications

This examination is only for permanent and confirmed officers in the Public Service who receive salaries under the Primary Level PL salary category or the MN 1-2025 salary code specified in Public Administration Circular No. 10/2025.
Officers of Provincial Public Services are not permitted to apply for this examination.
Applicants must have completed at least five years of active and satisfactory service in a permanent appointment by 25 September 2026.
Applicants must not have received a disciplinary punishment under the applicable provisions. This must be certified by the Head of the Department.
Applicants must have passed at least six subjects at the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination in not more than two sittings, with two credit passes, including Language/Literature and Mathematics or an accepted Mathematics subject.
Applicants must be of excellent character and possess adequate physical and mental fitness to serve anywhere in Sri Lanka.
Temporary and casual Public Service employees and employees of boards, corporations and similar institutions are not eligible.
Employees engaged in semi-technical work or specially trained for a particular duty may not be eligible. Such applicants should obtain confirmation through their Head of Department before applying.
All qualifications must have been completed by 25 September 2026.

සිංහල – සීමිත තරග විභාගයේ සුදුසුකම්

මෙම විභාගය රාජ්‍ය සේවයේ ස්ථිර පත්වීම් දරන හා එම පත්වීම්වල ස්ථිර කර ඇති නිලධාරීන් සඳහා පමණි.

பொது நிர்வாக சுற்றறிக்கை இலக்கம் 10/2025இன் கீழ் ஆரம்ப மட்ட PL சம்பளப் பிரிவு அல்லது MN 1-2025 சம்பளக் குறியீட்டின் கீழ் சம்பளம் பெறும் தகுதியுடைய உத்தியோகத்தர்கள் விண்ணப்பிக்கலாம்.
மாகாண அரச சேவை உத்தியோகத்தர்கள் இந்தப் பரீட்சைக்கு விண்ணப்பிக்க அனுமதிக்கப்படமாட்டார்கள்.

Important for Government Officers

A copy of the submitted application should be handed over to the Head of the Institution for inclusion in the personal file. When called for the interview, a certified copy of the application and a letter confirming the applicant’s service must be produced.

Examination and Appointment Details

The examination will be conducted in Sinhala, Tamil and English.
A candidate may answer in only one selected language medium and must answer all papers in that same medium.
The online application must be completed in the English language.
The examination fee is Rs. 600 and should be paid using a payment method provided through the online application system.
The salary scale is Rs. 48,470 – 10×540 – 11×630 – 10×1,010 – 10×1,190 – Rs. 82,800 under salary code MN 2-2025.
The post is permanent and pensionable, subject to the applicable government rules.
Selected candidates may be appointed to any part of Sri Lanka and will generally be required to serve at the first appointed station for at least three years.

Applications are invited for the Buddhist Dharmacharya Certificate Examination relating to the years 2024 and 2025. The Department of Examinations expects to conduct the examination in November 2026.

Applications cannot be submitted directly by individuals. Every application must be submitted through the relevant registered Dhamma school and certified by its principal.

Eligibility

An applicant must have at least one of the following qualifications:

Passed the Dhamma School Final Certificate Examination;
Passed the Pracheena Prarambha Examination;
Passed the Piriven Final Examination; or
Passed six subjects at the G.C.E. (O/L) Examination, including a Credit Pass in Buddhism.

How to Apply

Contact the principal of your registered Dhamma school. An eligible applicant who is not presently applying as a Dhamma-school candidate may contact the nearest Dhamma school and apply through it on payment of the prescribed fee.
Enter the applicant's full name exactly as shown on the National Identity Card. The NIC number is compulsory.
Prepare the application in duplicate. The original must be sent to the Department of Examinations and the second copy retained by the Dhamma-school principal. The principal must sign both copies.
The applicant must personally check all entered information and sign the application.
Send the completed application by registered post to: Commissioner General of Examinations, Institutional Examinations Organization Branch, Department of Examinations, Pelawatta, Battaramulla.
Write “Buddhist Dharmacharya Certificate Examination - 2026” and the requested examination city on the top-left corner of the envelope.

The Dhamma-school principal must collect applicable fees and pay the total at a post office under Revenue Head 20-03-02-13. The original receipt must be securely attached to the application.

Important Instructions

The selected examination medium cannot be changed later.
Incomplete, inaccurate or late applications will be rejected without notice.
Applicants with special needs must indicate this in the application and submit copies of the relevant medical certificates.
Keep a copy of the registered-post receipt. The Department will not acknowledge receipt of applications or accept responsibility for postal delays or losses.
Applicants must pass all five subjects. A candidate who fails only one subject may complete it within the next three examination opportunities, subject to the official conditions.
