The national emblem of Sri Lanka is used by the State of Sri Lanka and the Sri Lankan government in connection with the administration and government of the country. The current emblem has been in use since 1972 and created under the ideas and guidance of Nissanka Wijeyeratne. At the time, he was Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and Chairman of the National Emblem and Flag Design Committee.The designer of the emblem was Venerable Mapalagama Wipulasara Maha Thera, and the artwork was by S. M. Seneviratne.

The emblem features a gold lion passant, holding a sword in its right fore paw (the same lion from the flag of Sri Lanka) in the centre on a maroon background surrounded by golden petals of a Blue Lotus the national flower of the country. This is placed on top of a traditional grain vase that sprouts sheaves of rice grains that circle the border reflecting prosperity.

The crest is the Dharmachakra, symbolizing the country's foremost place for Buddhism and just rule. Traditional Sinhalese heraldic symbols for the sun and the moon form the supporters. Sun and Moon, and Lion depicting Lord Buddha is given less prominence than cart wheel of English Buddhism, so it is in great discordance with National Scriptures.

Management Service Officers (North Western Province)

APPLICATIONS are invited from the Sri Lankan Citizens who are permanent residents of the North Western Province to be recruited to the posts of Grade III of the Management Service Officers Service of the North Western Provincial Council.lt is hereby announced that the above examination will be conducted by the Public Service Commission of North Western Provincial Council in January 2020.

Qualifications

Should be a citizen of Sri Lanka who is a permanent resident in the territory of the North Western Provincial Council for a period at least 03 years as at closing date of applications.
Age 18-35

Closing Date 20.12.2019.

Educational qualifications.

Should have passed 06 subjects in less than two sittings with Credit passes for four (04) subjects including Sinhala or Tamil or English Language and Mathematics at the General Certifi cate of Education (Ordinary Level) Examination. and
Should have passed all subjects (excluding Common General Test and General English) in the same sitting at the General Certifi cate of Education (Advanced Level) Examination. Passing of 03 subjects in the same sitting is suffi cient under the old syllabus.

Ministry of education upgrade four provincial schools as national schools.

Buona Vista College, Galle,
St. Sylvester’s College, Kandy
Valaichchenai Hindu College, Batticaloa
Al Ashraf College, Ampara

With these four schools, the number of national schools has increased to 374. All national schools including these four schools have come under direct observation and management of the Education Ministry while all provincial schools are under respective provincial councils.
