Technology Stream
Background
  • Report of the national education commission, 1997
  • Report of the youth unrest commission
Objectives
  • Resolving the inequalities in the selection of subject streams at the G.C.E. A/L
  • Creating science scholars from the higher education to suit the demand in the current job marketProviding the students with the technical skills needed for day to day life
  • Generating the skills within the students to find technical solutions for real world problems
  • Developing the skills suitable for the job market within the students
  • Directing the students towards the professional education according to the national professional qualifications structure
Minimum qualifications required at the G.C.E. (O/L) to study technology subject stream
  • To pass 06 core subjects including the Medium Language, Mathematics and Science at the G.C.E. (O/L) having credit passes at least for 03 subjects

Central Bank of Sri Lanka organises Economics Competition for School Children. The Econ  Icon Season IV starts in first quarter of 2019.

Students who studies Economics in AL in Sinhala and Tamil Medium can apply for this competition. Competition has written tests and Television round. Selected students from written test will qualified for TV Round competitions.

Admission cards and time tables of the school candidates have been already posted to the principals of the respective schools and those of private candidates to the addresses given n their applications.

Institute of Chemistry Ceylon (IChemC) annually conducts the Chemistry Olympiad Sri Lanka (COSL) competition in view of popularising Chemistry and promoting problem-solving in Chemistry among the school children.

Instructions: 
  • Fill the form clearly in English 
  • Applicant must be less than 20 years of age as at July 1, 2019. 
  • Registration Fee Rs 500 must be remitted to the following bank account No

The competition will be open for any student below 20 years of age as at 1st July 2019.
Closing Date 12th December 2018.

Format of the examination

COSL consists of two rounds.
Preliminary selection test

This will be held at 12 regional centers in January each year. The duration of the examination will be two hours and will be conducted in all three languages namely, English, Sinhalese and Tamil. 

The question paper will consist of multiple choice questions and structured type questions which covers the first 5 units of the local Advanced Level Chemistry syllabus 
(i.e. Atomic structure, Structure and bonding, Chemical calculations, Gaseous state of matter, Energetics), 
along with questions on basic organic Chemistry including stereo chemistry.

Final theory and practical examination
Depending on the performances at the preliminary examination, the selected students will be invited to take part in the final round of the COSL. Theory and practical workshops will be conducted at the IChemC premises at Rajagiriya for the finalists prior to the final examination.


Awards and certificates
National level winners will receive medals, certificates, monetary awards, and scholarships to study GIC programme in Chemistry.

In addition, students who obtain more than 50% marks from the preliminary exam will receive certificates of commendation.

Structure of Question Paper & Prototype Questions For GIT Online Examinations 2018 Onwards


Examination Department has released   A book of Structure of the question papers and prototype questions for GIT Online Examination - 2018 onwards.

Conducting the exam It is expect to held the exam in 16 stages with in eight days as two sessions per day, morning and evening. Applicants will be sent to his/her school computer lab or the nearest lab. In order to make students aware of the exam, three pilot tests will be held as follows, 1. First pilot test – within October 2018 2. Second Pilot test – last weeks of November 2018 3. Third Pilot test – within December 2018/ January 2019 Applicants will have to sit for 1st pilot test at his/her preferred center, 02nd & 03rd at selected centers. Zonal Directors of Education will direct the students those who do not have computer facilities to the nearest schools with such facilities.

This smart book, offered to you by the Educational Publications Department, is the first product of the pilot project related to the production of e-textbooks. 

The content of this smart book, produced for Grade 11 Science subject, is similar to that of the printed textbook. It has been prepared with the aim of providing an opportunity for the students to engage in active learning by making the subject of Science a more practical experience. 

Along with each lesson in this smart book, prepared under an activity-based theme, a series of exercises, an activity and a short note are included. Furthermore, with the aim of providing an opportunity for the students to engage in further studies on the subject facts, information is included for additional knowledge. It is a special feature of this smart book that the students who do the series of exercises can create a profile to do a self-evaluation of each unit. The textbook is included in the smart book as a PDF so that the students could utilize it when necessary.
